Interesting stuff.
It doesn't tell if your autistic or not, but it gives some interesting information.

This is fascinating. I've just done the test and scored 15 out of twenty.
I think this is because I know what happens to my own face when my smile is not genuine.
I've put that site straight into my favourites.

Is it just me or did anyone else judge who was faking it, not just by the subjects eyes, but by how quickly their smile 'dropped' without lingering for a second or two?

wilky

Actually, now I come to think of it, I think that's how I judged them all.
I got 17/20

I guess I know things I shouldn't know according to the last word there.

From the bbc site:

Find out more about 'brain sex' differences by taking the Sex ID test, a series of visual challenges and questions used by psychologists in the BBC One television series Secrets of the Sexes:

Get a brain sex profile and find out if you think like a man or a woman.
See if you can gaze into someone's eyes and know what they're thinking.
Find out why scientists are interested in the length of your fingers.
See how your results relate to theories about brain sex.

I'm going to have a go at this one!

Woops, sorry about that. I put the quote in the wrong place. It's supposed to be the middle bit.
I got 11/20.  the test is really not that good.  It does not test whether you can tell people's emotions from their face.  But I can't tell if people are lying from their face either.  I was not surprised that I did not do too well. I see a mouth smile and I think people are happy.
I found the test quite easy (easier than still photos) because spontaeous smiles make bits above the bottom of the nose wrinkle, from the eyes to the cheeks outwards. Fake smiles barely move the cheeks, mostly just the mouth, and they are a tiny bit slower.
16/20, got 3 fake ones and one genuine one wrong. It's hard to tell a "timid" or restrained smile from a fake one too, or when someone is a bit slow to "get" what is funny (like myself sometimes), that can look fake too. If I could remember to look at people, and if I could look at them and listen to what they say at the same time, I'd be quite good at this. Maybe I should start vidoeotaping people, to analyse their face afterwards Wink

That, and the region between the bottom of the nose and the bottom of the eyes. If it creases quickly and outwards from the mouth it's a spontaneous smile. Mostly.

I got 20/20, but only because I've read up on how to distinguish real smiles from fake smiles in the past.

Do you manage to do that in real too? I mean, when actually talking to them? If yes, how do you do it and still keep on track?

Natalie Wrote:
When people are talking to me I generally don't look at their faces so I probably wouldn't know if it was a sincere smile or not.

Yeah me neither... well I kind of look towards them but I don't usually see them. Sort of like a flat, dark, shady backdrop to my speech, but not full people let alone faces.

It helps a lot when I can see the face change and analyze how it moves in order to determine the proper emotion based on what I've studied.

Exactly, plus it is handier for real life - I mean people don't "pose" for stills to let you analyse their facial expressions! Wink

I followed the eyes and looked for wrinkles.

Unfortunately I even find it difficult to look into their eyes for as long as it takes, i like better to look at the mouth.  ..maybe that's why I got 13 of 20. Tongue

You don't need to look at the eyes, just at the skin under and besode the eyes Smile

I definitely understands why some shy people is being accused of always locking at womens boobs. Shy

Ah yeah I keep doing that too. And I am female!

Well thanks for forcing me to look at some of the scariest looking people in the country.
