I've been a metal fan for 7 years now. These are my favourites in no particular order:

Slayer
Judas Priest
Megadeth
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Alice In Chains
Mastodon
Dream Theater
Pantera
Sepultura
Queensryche
Opeth
Machine Head
Death
Type O Negative
Lamb Of God
Corrosion Of Conformity
Meshuggah
Helmet
Down
Iced Earth
Morbid Angel
Dimmu Borgir
Nile
I'm not into moshing. I just want to bang my head and watch the show. I can understand moshing to intense music must be a huge energy rush but it's not for me. I don't mind people doing it as long as they don't try and get me involved in it.
Sunn 0)))
Boris
Bathory
Earth
Corrosion Of Conformity (pre- 1990)
Slayer
Venom
Mercyful Fate
Napalm Death
Godflesh
SWANS (Cop/Greed/Holy Money era)
Motorhead
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest ( Nothing after Screaming For Vengeance, though)
Pentagram ( The old DC band, not the one from Turkey)
Zeni Geva
Exodus
Celtic Frost
Sodom
Iron Maiden

--This is some of the stuff that I have in my collection.

The best thing about metal and metal/rock clubs in general is you just don't get dickheads going there and you can have a good night out.

As a scene it has to be the best one to be a part of.

I hate do disagree with you, but I ran sound for bands in the 80's and 90's, and I have to say that the all of the punk shows ( before Green Day and others of that ilk compromised the punk scene) were more like a family gathering, and the shows were rarely plagued by violence.

The metal show that I ran sound for almost always had a couple of dickheads that would invariably fuck things up for everybody else.

like that ijit who threw his beer into the air at a Maiden show Rolleyes
it landed...on the sound board.and destroyed it...
bet he was popular...Big Grin

Like the guy that got into a fight with another guy who then started swinging a chain.
Like the almost endless fights started by guys over another guy's girlfreind
Like the guy that put his hand through pistchio ( IE Gumball) dispenser
Like the guy that pulled a knife on another guy....

Don't get me wrong, shit could happen at punk shows, ( Like the almost full 55 gallon barrel of Chinese Restaurant waste grease that got dumped down the load in stairs) but it was never outright violence directed at another person, weapons or no weopons involved.

I think Kerry King is overrated as a guitarist. Jeff Hanneman is better and is definitely superior as a songwriter. He wrote many of the band's best-known songs both by himself and vocalist/bassist Tom Araya.

For the record, my Top 5 favourite guitarists:

Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)
Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains)
Chuck Schuldiner (Death)

I thought there would be loads of metal fans on this forum go with the different theme.  As it is I love metal, I go to download festival every year and talk a lot in the forum for download.  My fav's are Metallica, Maiden, KORN! (seeing them next month oh yeh!), Stone Sour, Linken Park, Slipnot, Evanescence, Biffy Clyro, Trivium, Pantera, AC/DC, Rage against the machine, Black Sabbath ... kind of lean towards the nu-metal, also like foo fighter's, Pearl Jam, Smashing pumkins and lots of indie stuff.  I love all kinds of music, but I love acoustic guitar.  Anyone here go to download?

No offense, but only about 5 of those bands actually are metal.

Dave Mustaine owns him in the fast department. Check out Take No Prisoners, Set The World Afire and Polarois for some real finger bending songs.

EDIT: The last song should read Polaris.

That looks like the coolest instrument for an Industrial Metal Band.

Or an EBM (electronic black metal) band.

Big Grin

yeah its a baritone and i have no probs tuning it to A. seven semis down. plus its got a piezo and 81/85EMGs so you can really make use of the extra low end. industrial metal is pretty much what i use it for. i should have some new tracks with it on myspace soon, so stay tuned.

matthe

the industrial metal/hardcore techno stuff i speak of is still in its conceptual stages of sound design and basic construction. however i am curently using http://www.myspace.com/monsterjesus as my personal page. i gotta warn you that until ive moved my personal stuff out of the way, i will not be acepting any friend adds on this page, so just add me to your favorites. there are links there to some of my past projects, mostly just expiriments.  there is a good chance that monster jesus will be the name of said loud music project. you can expect to see some rough drafts pop up in january. i dont really use myspace much anymore so the page is a little neglected, excuse the mess.
