Dude I love metal. Many people perseve us as bad, but were just ordinary people. Also here are some of my favorate guitarists

Kerry King
Jimmy Page
Slash
Eric clapton
I used to LOVE metal when I was a teenager. I liked thrash, speed, and so-called "death metal" such as:
Metallica
Pantera
Deicide
Cannibal Corpse
Iron Maiden(whom I STILL listen to to this day)
Queensryche
Dio
Venom

But for the most part Ive pretty much outgrown it(with the exception of 80s speedmetal). I always HATED "hair" bands with a capital H.

Motley Crue
Rush
W.A.S.P.
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
Fear Factory
Mercyful Fate

You'll be glad you did!
yes, that is something that struck me as well. most of us seem to prefer Rock (inc. metal) or Classical.
Judas  Priest will be releasing Nostradamus today in Europe and tomorrow in the US. At least it is supposed to be.
I like Avenged Sevenfold, they're pretty good. Anyone listen to them? The Beast and the Harlot is one of my favorite songs, and it's on Guitar Hero II, and they've got a lot of other good songs. I like metal, most every kind, but I also like some very un-metal genres. Anyone know any good metal bands that are heavy on bass, or have any bass solos?
Well I hear it's tight most ev'ry night, atypical. But now, I might be mistaken, a-hm hm hm...
Heh, now I've got an Idea. That means a Thread. Ever hear of Guitar Hero, atypical? It's a game where you play a plastic guitar, as if you're a rock star, and it has lots of great songs. I'm off to start a thread about it somewhere.
Rock on, brother! Rock on!
Uh... Nope, I didn't know... Well foot, meet mouth. Tongue

SECONDED! Anyway, I don't think I've listed my preferred metal bands.

Lacuna coil (just getting into them, but I REALLY like what I hear)
Pantera
Dream Theater (Absolutely love Portnoy on drums, petrucci on guitar)
Black Sabbath (I have a good number of their albums)
Nine Inch Nails
Tool (FRICKIN LOVE TOOL)
Iron Maiden
Godsmack
Kittie
Korn
Disturbed (they're more heavy rock, but it's Allllll good)
Deftones (Dont' know if they really count, more emo than anything, but blasting My Own Summer in a wal mart parking lot with the windows down is Awesome)
Judas Priest
Dragonforce
Ill Nino (just getting into them too)
Megadeth (usually their older stuff though(
SEVENDUST (I'm GOING TO SEE THEM IN SEPTEMBER!)
Shadows Fall (just getting into them too)
System of a down (more rockish, but their first album had some metal sounding stuff on it)
Suicidal Tendencies (actually they're closer to thrash punk, w/e)

As for a band that really focused on catchy bass riffs, and know how to rock, I'd recommend Infectios Grooves.  They could be somewat classed as metal, but they lean more toward Funk and Punk in their styles.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=yLetfd4oLSE  Infectious Grooves - Punk it Up.  Starts out with some really nice bass guitar, and it's a driving force of the song, In my opinion.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=0GpQIgKha1w&feature=related  Infectious Grooves - Borracho  another really nice track.

Though I doubt I'm overly good as displaying examples of good songs by other bands.   I have Infectious Grooves entire discography though

I love metal!!!!!  I actually like a LOT of different music, but metal gets me Smile
I would love to write down all of the bands that are strictly metal that I listen too, but I am too tired to look through my 1000's of cd's.
I cannot believe I have NOT seen though
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD!!!!!! They are one of my fave's I have got all the albums.
Divine Heresy is a bnad I have recently gotten into also.  There are many many that I love.
System of a down (sugar!), and Mindless self indulgence are my Top 2 fav bands as of  this time, not really metal actually.  I call it my ADD music.  I listen to it when I am out of focus and need some music that reflects that.
Oh and did I see some dragon force fans?  I enjoy them quite a lot.  They are so epic, it's hilarious.  Anyway, this seems like a great discussion!

I didn't even think to add Dragonforce to my list!  Though if you want the epicness, I would try Rhapsody of Fire (formerly called Rhapsody). That's truly epic!

Ghetto Edit:  Only after I looked over my list 8 times did I notice I already had dragonforce Big Grin
What album are you looking into getting?  I have the Triumph or Agony album, and it's awesome!  Think I'm gonna listen to it now...
