SECONDED! Anyway, I don't think I've listed my preferred metal bands.
Lacuna coil (just getting into them, but I REALLY like what I hear)
Pantera
Dream Theater (Absolutely love Portnoy on drums, petrucci on guitar)
Black Sabbath (I have a good number of their albums)
Nine Inch Nails
Tool (FRICKIN LOVE TOOL)
Iron Maiden
Godsmack
Kittie
Korn
Disturbed (they're more heavy rock, but it's Allllll good)
Deftones (Dont' know if they really count, more emo than anything, but blasting My Own Summer in a wal mart parking lot with the windows down is Awesome)
Judas Priest
Dragonforce
Ill Nino (just getting into them too)
Megadeth (usually their older stuff though(
SEVENDUST (I'm GOING TO SEE THEM IN SEPTEMBER!)
Shadows Fall (just getting into them too)
System of a down (more rockish, but their first album had some metal sounding stuff on it)
Suicidal Tendencies (actually they're closer to thrash punk, w/e)
As for a band that really focused on catchy bass riffs, and know how to rock, I'd recommend Infectios Grooves. They could be somewat classed as metal, but they lean more toward Funk and Punk in their styles.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=yLetfd4oLSE Infectious Grooves - Punk it Up. Starts out with some really nice bass guitar, and it's a driving force of the song, In my opinion.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=0GpQIgKha1w&feature=related Infectious Grooves - Borracho another really nice track.
Though I doubt I'm overly good as displaying examples of good songs by other bands. I have Infectious Grooves entire discography though

I didn't even think to add Dragonforce to my list! Though if you want the epicness, I would try Rhapsody of Fire (formerly called Rhapsody). That's truly epic!
