I've been a metal fan for 7 years now. These are my favourites in no particular order:
Slayer
Judas Priest
Megadeth
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Alice In Chains
Mastodon
Dream Theater
Pantera
Sepultura
Queensryche
Opeth
Machine Head
Death
Type O Negative
Lamb Of God
Corrosion Of Conformity
Meshuggah
Helmet
Down
Iced Earth
Morbid Angel
Dimmu Borgir
Nile
I'm not into moshing. I just want to bang my head and watch the show. I can understand moshing to intense music must be a huge energy rush but it's not for me. I don't mind people doing it as long as they don't try and get me involved in it.
I think Kerry King is overrated as a guitarist. Jeff Hanneman is better and is definitely superior as a songwriter. He wrote many of the band's best-known songs both by himself and vocalist/bassist Tom Araya.
For the record, my Top 5 favourite guitarists:
Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)
Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen)
Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains)
Chuck Schuldiner (Death)
I see no Herman Li

That's because Dragonforce sucks.
I thought there would be loads of metal fans on this forum go with the different theme. As it is I love metal, I go to download festival every year and talk a lot in the forum for download. My fav's are Metallica, Maiden, KORN! (seeing them next month oh yeh!), Stone Sour, Linken Park, Slipnot, Evanescence, Biffy Clyro, Trivium, Pantera, AC/DC, Rage against the machine, Black Sabbath ... kind of lean towards the nu-metal, also like foo fighter's, Pearl Jam, Smashing pumkins and lots of indie stuff. I love all kinds of music, but I love acoustic guitar. Anyone here go to download?
No offense, but only about 5 of those bands actually are metal.
im not a big metal fan. but maybe im the biggest fan of all, in a purist sense.
here is my list of favorite metal albums
metalica - kill 'em all
thats all
any of you guys like fantomas? (almost metal)
my greatest (and newest) tool for making metal type stuff. (also great for other things)

0.o but...the lightning fingers of....
Blasphemy!

Dave Mustaine owns him in the fast department. Check out Take No Prisoners, Set The World Afire and Polarois for some real finger bending songs.

That looks like the coolest instrument for an Industrial Metal Band.
Or an EBM (electronic black metal) band.

yeah its a baritone and i have no probs tuning it to A. seven semis down. plus its got a piezo and 81/85EMGs so you can really make use of the extra low end. industrial metal is pretty much what i use it for. i should have some new tracks with it on myspace soon, so stay tuned.
the industrial metal/hardcore techno stuff i speak of is still in its conceptual stages of sound design and basic construction. however i am curently using
http://www.myspace.com/monsterjesus as my personal page. i gotta warn you that until ive moved my personal stuff out of the way, i will not be acepting any friend adds on this page, so just add me to your favorites. there are links there to some of my past projects, mostly just expiriments. there is a good chance that monster jesus will be the name of said loud music project. you can expect to see some rough drafts pop up in january. i dont really use myspace much anymore so the page is a little neglected, excuse the mess.
I love metal!!!!! I actually like a LOT of different music, but metal gets me

I would love to write down all of the bands that are strictly metal that I listen too, but I am too tired to look through my 1000's of cd's.
I cannot believe I have NOT seen though
STRAPPING YOUNG LAD!!!!!! They are one of my fave's I have got all the albums.
Divine Heresy is a bnad I have recently gotten into also. There are many many that I love.
System of a down (sugar!), and Mindless self indulgence are my Top 2 fav bands as of this time, not really metal actually. I call it my ADD music. I listen to it when I am out of focus and need some music that reflects that.
Oh and did I see some dragon force fans? I enjoy them quite a lot. They are so epic, it's hilarious. Anyway, this seems like a great discussion!
I think I have heard of rhapsody of fire, but just in case I haven't, I am going to look it up just be sure!
Lol at the above comment I would do the same thing seriously!

okay not to be Mrs. Postalot but thanks for telling me about rhapsody of fire!! I have heard of them, but forgot to look into them. You are absolutely right about the epicness, and I think I am off to buy an album, because that's how I roll.
OMG rotflmao!!!! wow, that totally made my day. THanks for that, especially after reading that scary post from another section.
Oh and joesteel64 I think that I will get the latest album and go from there, Ima let my husband hear it first.
