I've visitted som norwegian autism boards now and then. There's several things that hits me when it comes to how people there think of autism.
An aspie was rather skeptic when I mentioned that most autistic people have above avarage IQ.
I say that people with LFA probably have higher IQ than most researchers claim is the avarage because test results often increase dramatically after more communication skills are learnt.
He responds that probably only those who have high IQ learns to communicate.
I tell about great skill non-communicative autisitic people might have to show him that they're at least not that stupid.
He responds that degree of obsession has nothing to do with intelligence.
I direct him to a thread at AFF where alot of members have given their IQ test results, many high above avarage.
He responds that people often lie at the internet.
...
What is it with this guy?
Why keep trying to convince him? Obviously he doesn't want to hear it at this point.
To use a metaphor: You can show someone a goose ten thousand times, but they'll still see a duck if a duck is what they want to see.
(Literal translation: People tend to see only what they want to see, despite evidence to the contrary.)
It's too bad the guy isn't more educated about these things though, being an Aspie himself...

You seem to be right, as he still claims to be right regardless of his lack of informative arguments. He seem to speculate ways my information would be incorrect.
I began to wonder what you were so picky about. When I said that about Kanner's I meant and also corrected myself later that it was probable and very likely.
Probably a misunderstanding then.
Now that you've done it, I suppose I might as well answer. The two main claims erkolos made (you can read them
here if you read Norwegian) were that the average IQ of people with Kanner's syndrome is 120 - 150 and that above average intelligence is a diagnostic criteria of Asperger's. I've not managed to find any definition that supports the latter, and erkolos didn't provide any research to support the former. He did however direct me to a thread on this forum in which some people gave their IQs. I don't consider that to be adequate evidence of that claim. There is a reason why forum-based surveys aren't allowed in scientific journals.
I said that when diagnosing AS psychologists often use IQ tests because aspies show avarage to high IQ. When S1men said that avarage to high IQ was not part of the formal diagnostic criterias like in the DSM-IV and used that to prove that people often lie at the internet I provided him this link:
http://autism.about.com/od/aspergerssynd...adults.htm
S1men say that I am one-sided in my representation of the discussion. It's obvious for any who have studied their own discussions that it's unavoidable. I admit that I am one-sided in my representation even though I try to not be, but I can't walk around that, just like you obviously can't.
It does support it, it just doesn't prove it. Nothing is really "proven" yet.
Do you believe anything regarding autistics intelligence?
100 is avarage
130 is high
(100 + 130) / 2 = 115
... above avarage
Still not all aspies show exceptionally high IQ, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are less-abled. Infact in families with multiple autistic children the ones with the most complex problems associated with autism often had the highest IQs.
It does however reveal hidden potentials.
I hate when I have site everything I say that conflicts other norwegians' views.
Can't you just... umm... look for yourself?
Kind of funny that Simen says I continued the discussion at this site. What I did was to show him this thread, then he presented himself here for some unknown reason.
Yes I am one-sided in my presentation of Simen, that was actually the point. It was an aspect of his attitude I wanted to discuss WITHOUT Simen. I never intended to attack Simen as a person, I never gave people at AFF his username, but now he pretty much does exactly that to me.
Yes, I am not perfect. I will learn from this incident to use more of the "correct me if I'm wrong" sentence.
...
Is 70 considered avarage IQ?
Oh, normal.
Is 70 considered normal IQ?
I would never name you at this site. You could have continued the discussion at the other forum.
I might choose to take more of the one then.
Og er det virkelig tilfelle at de fleste med Kanners har normal IQ?
This was what aggroed me and resulted in me telling the abit impulsive statement of 120-150 IQ in LFA's.
It means:
"Is it really the case that people with Kanners have normal IQ?"
... like in not below normal IQ.
