But the Scientologists are currently coming under fire for not only refusing to admit that their son is autistic, which many close the couple claim is true, but also for refusing to give Jett the proper treatment for his condition.

According to the Church of Scientology, people with mental illnesses are "degraded" and capable of curing themselves by working harder on the church's teachings.

Poor kid.

I was irritated and responded with: Autism is not an illness. I have autism. He has AS which is a high-functioning form. He probably has above average intelligence and finds it hard to pick up on social cues. It is not an illness Perez, we are not a puzzle. Learn your facts.

Edit, I meant I am autistic, not I have. I was just irritated and wanted to get my point across.

Haha. I hate Perez but for some reason go there. I just had to speak up though. Even more discerning were some users' ignorant comments. But that is to be expected from readers of Perez I assume.

I may have been mistaken in that the person on the beach was his mother. I'm not sure whether he is low functioning or high functioning, but the fact still stands that Perez is saying its an illness and he should be cured.

I don't get it! Why are people thinking we're sick? We're not! This was something we born with and we can't do anything about it! Besides, some people think Enstien had aspburgers and he was one smartest people in the world!

Parez get ya facts right I am A christian I do believe in miracles and in the past I have heard in my local newspaper there was a article people do break free from autisum the point is...... autisum is not an illness it is a condition that you are born with

Heh. I think that Scientology is full of rubbish too.

I think it's not so much their son but the fact that their scientologists. By them coming out and saying they don't want him to be "cured" the press would immediately criticize scientology, of which the issue isn't about. So they're just avoiding the inevitable. It would be great if they did say something about it though.
