I'm expierencing exactly the same problem.
I also get the "unvalid URL" message, when I try from photobucket.
Inside the post it seems to work

This is the first time I've been able to get on in a while. Had to reload each page to make it this far.
still no luck on the avatar!!!
STILL having to reload each page 2-3 times, getting VERY old.
STILL cannot upload an avatar, says I don't have permission.

there appears to be a bug or possibly some kind of linking error for external avatars.
Please be patient and we'll investigate further.
The Moderators and Administrators are doing their best, please try to be patient.
hello guys, did you get to the bottom of this yet? i'm another in this long line of people who can't upload an external avatar ("you do not have permission etc"). do you know how to enable this now? hope so.

I was using the quick reply option but when I use the reply button at the bottom of post it comes up with the quote of the last reply,like yours here.
Too many buttons for me,lol
