Yes me...best programme on TV.

I've been a lifelong fan. Like the old stuff...but new stuff is also great. The week before last's episode (42) was great...fast paced and very exciting (filmed in real time).

I think the new Dr Who started a bit tentatively--with the right ideas but lacking in confidence.

As its continued the writers have gained confidence; shown a willingness to experiment. Which in my opinion has made the more recent episodes better the earlier ones. It just keeps getting better and better…not many shows I can say that about.

The most recent episode shown in the UK (Family of Blood) was fab. The Dr relinquishes his Timelord consciousness and becomes human. As a human 'John Smith' he shows real human frailty--he's in danger of loosing his life--unlike The Dr, John Smith cannot regenerate. He's confused, scared and there are times when it looks like he might not survive.

At the same time there is conflict between his human and his Timelord identities. If he remains human he can fall in love, have children and live a normal life. As The Dr he has amazing adventures but would remain alone.

By the way, I think the soundtrack used in the new Dr Who is amazing--it adds a emotional element which was sometimes lacking in the earlier stuff.

Thanks Midnight Owl--I didn't know about tvlinks. I'm watching an episode of Dr Who now.

I quite like Touchwood--nowhere near as good as Dr Who of course. But it explores themes that Dr Who would never be able too--sex, violence and death mostly. Its a lot darker and feels less comfortable than Dr Who--you're never completely sure if thing are going to be 'alright in the end'. But I suppose it's good to brake out of your comfort zone once in a while.

I'm sure whether or not I like John Barrowman as Captain Jack (sort of like a camp captain scarlet).

Concerning Dr Who:- I've heard that Catherine Tate's going to revise her role as Donna and become the Dr's new companion. She was very entertaining in last year's Christmas episode.

Hooray, the third season starts showing in the US tomorrow night!  Smile  I'm so excited!

The third season of Dr Who is the best yet...I'm watch episode 9 at this very moment.

I recommend episode 7 (42). As well as episodes 8 and 9 (parts 1 and 2 of Human Nature).

We are planning next Friday around episode II.

Ah,

Episode 2 ‘The Shakespeare Code’--a little more fantasy than sci fi I thought; but still great--I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Pertwee was my favorite Dr..but Tennant is VERY good....

I used to have an obsession with Doctor around age 14-15, I mean an intense obsession, and it came from nostalgic memories of having watched the show when I was 5-8 years old with my brother, and loving the sensory experience.

But the obsession ceased when I realized the production values were absolute crap, and many of the actors (not the Doctors tho) were obnoxious and terrible.  The concepts of the show are great; however, the shoestring budget eventually ruined it for me, and I couldn't "pretend" there was an effort to make a quality program anymore, when there really wasn't.

Have you seen the new Dr Who episodes? Quality TV...with quality actors  a large-ish budget and great stories. If you haven't seen any of the new stuff...take a look; you might be surprised.

who isnt a doctor who fan? and if you find someone, how long until you brain wash them into liking it... ummm... i mean.... convince them that its a good show?

My preferred Dr Who brain washing technique involves tying my victim to a chair with an awfully long and terribly colourful scarf; then I say the word PERTWEE to them repeatedly as I poke them with my sonic screwdriver and force them to listen to the Dr Who theme tune over and over again.

Or I just tell them how good the programme is…

Erich and I are barely hanging on. Neither of us much likes Tennent, and I'm still morning the loss of Rose.

Don't worry Max...didn't anyone tell you; rose isn't dead she’s alive and well and living in a parallel universe. Smile As for Billy Piper…well she gone on to do over things.

I do find Tennant a little too student-ish and somewhat melodramatic. But I generally like his incarnation of the Dr.

Hmm, that's too bad.  I really like Tennent.  My mother, though, doesn't, so I guess there's a pretty wide range of reactions to him amongst the fan base.
As for companions-  I like Martha, but Rose was better.  I do like how they've played up the effect her loss had on the Doctor, though.

I do think Tennent brings a passion to the role that was sometimes been lacking in other DRs; and yes I'd I agree Rose was better as a companion. I wonder how Catherine Tate will do? She was very entertining in last year's christmas special.

Is that the one with the wedding and the spidery alien?  That one was fantastic, I loved it!  The elaborate makeup and the over-the-top acting of the person playing the spider-alien was brilliant!  Big Grin

Yep, that's the one. 'Runaway bride'...I think it was called.

Piper was no great beauty (Martha is incredibly gorgeous) but I loved her spirit and heart.

Yeah, I'd have to agree there.

The bride in the Christmas show, I found hugely entertaining. I was disappointed she wasn't the new companion, so I'm glad she's returning. Erich found her incredibly annoying -- he said "Maybe they just put her in so we'll appreciate the next one (Martha.)"

Well Catherine Tate's background is in comedy; but I thought she was very good in the Christmas special. But I do worry that with her being a comedian and with Tenant having a tendency toward melodrama whether the whole show might not degenerate into somewhat of a farce--but I suppose that will all depend on the strength of the story lines and how they develop the characters.
