What birth control are you speaking of? The general assumption is that you are referring to hormonal birth control, though there are other kinds.

I'm annoyed that there aren't more reasonable options for birth control.

I am also curious to know what reasons there may be for being opposed to birth control (hormonal or otherwise). Obviously, if the hormones don't work with your body, or the IUD causes discomfort, or the risks involved are too high, one shouldn't use something that makes life unpleasant. But are the religious and philosophical reasons to avoid it?
"GuessWho Wrote:
Science Digest mentioned latex plugs for Fallopian tubes"
Is this possibly referring to Essure? The point is that some material (polyester fibers and metals, used in heart operations) in the form of springs is inserted into the fallopian tubes to cause scarring and thus permanent sterility. It doesn't require surgery, just an outpatient visit. There isn't supposed to be a problem with the eggs absorbing back into the body, but just because I didn't see it when I researched this product doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I suppose if Catholics think any method of birth control is a sin, then I can't be much of a Catholic. Ah well, I wasn't that interested in it anyway.

There should be some reversible male contraception available soon, but last I heard there were some odd problems that required testosterone supplements to correct. Then you just get all the hormones confused. I'm pretty sure confused hormones effect the brain, and that's bad.
of course Birth control doesn't have anything bad, but i'm agains't abortion unless the fetus come physicaly sick or represents a risk for the mother,i don't see another reason to interrupt a life, mainly because scientists now can get Mother-cells from the umbilical cord
Perhaps it would help you to know that 10% of men in Japan between 40 and 45 have never had sex either.
And then there's all the young men your age in very orthodox Islamic countries -

I bet you're not the only one on this forum that hadn't by that age, but I can't be sure. I obviously had sex before that age (considering I'm 22 and pregnant), but they say it's easier for girls to get laid than for guys. Also... in case you hadn't noticed, a lot of guys on this forum just don't notice it when a girl is interested in them, and hence miss a lot of opportunities. So you might in reality be super attractive but just never have noticed it. Smile

You could take the positive approach and just say that you're saving yourself for the right person, instead of being a *** (m/f) like so many other people. Smile And in case you hadn't noticed yet, tons of people haven't found the right person yet by age 25, so you're not behind on that one yet. Smile

If you were willing to sleep with just anyone, I can assure you that it shouldn't be that hard to find some girl that's desperate. I recommend against it though.

I hate when people talk about having sex; if I can't have it, why should they?

It's a part of life... and vastly overrated in western society. I'll admit it feels good, but imo it's definitely not worth the effort and risk to just go have sex with someone you don't know all that well. Talking to girls and reading stuff I've found that most had a rather lousy first time and plenty of lousy other times too...

But along the same lines, one could argue that people should keep their mouths shut about just about any topic... I don't have money so don't mention money... I don't have a college degree so don't mention college... on and on. There aren't many people on this planet that have everything... pretty much everybody is lacking something in their lives, and often more than one thing. You happen to be lacking a gf and a sex life. Accept it... it's not likely to be a permanent lack anyway.

Hi there,

If you were giving advice to another woman then I'd agree with everything you've said.  The problem is Batman55 is a man - sans bat.  Not sure where the 55 comes in.

I think this aspect of the gender gap hits them more than it hits us.  We probably only think about sex once or twice a day.  They think about it far more than that and have testosterone egging them on - which is kinda hard on a young man if they have a naturally high sex drive - don't you think?

IT'S A BIG THING FOR THESE GUYS!

You shouldn't try to put it on a female level.  No way.  Absolutely not.  We woman ask for some allowances for our gender, and this is one of the ways we can respect men and make allowances for something that is perfectly natural to them.

I don't think any woman has the right to tell a man about how they should feel towards sex - the exception being a mature sex worker because she is a professional.

I've met sex workers with a fairly profound understanding of the male psyche - and it's unfortunate that our cultural taboos restrict men from seeing these women, and restrict some very good women who know their psychology and their sex from being recognised for their talents.  Do you know how many woman work this way whilst getting themselves a degree?

Let's not get fooled by the taboos and the stereotyped image of these woman and their clients.  Most of these woman are down to earth, like sex, some are clever, some are dumb, some do drugs, some run a good house.  If the men are regulars then it's because the woman like them - treat them as friends and vice versa.  Sex workers can demand respect just like any other woman does...and believe me they get that!

And lady - they deserve it!

ps - I'm not a sex worker, but I've met a fewSmile

Scientifically, there is no absolutely 100% certain contraceptive except NO.
There have been these cases, few, but nevertheless they exist.

women have become pregnant again, whilst pregnant therebye having ' twins' of different gestation.

Tube tying  / plugging has resulted in pregnancy in the abdomen.

The pill often doesn't work if combined with antibiotics, other drugs or diarrohea.

Pregnancy can occur at any time of the month.

Condoms can split or be deliberately damaged in the factory.

vasectomy can reverse itself.

Women in their 60's have been known to become pregnant without medical intervention.

The coil can result in an abdominal pregnancy or can be ejected.

Just thought I would cheer you all up  Wink

BTW very strict Roman Catholics decry masturbation, as it is ' killing unborn potential babies '.

You're right Martian Woman, there are NO guarantee's that birth control will work. But there are just about no guarantee's that just about anything is foolproof! Just because the odds arent 100% isnt a reason not to use Birth Control if you dont wanna get knocked up or knock your partner up!!

Oh I didn't mean for it not to be used.
I think it should.
Since many were saying X Y & Z weren't foolproof I was just making the point that nothing is.  Rolleyes
Actually it is better to use two different methods that is much more safe.Wink

I'll say it again.  We've had a perfect combination of non-renewable or semi-renewable factors:
1. topsoil
2. groundwater (we've had severe droughts, a Dust Bowl)
3. fossil fuel

and favorable climate, by the way, not the Little Ice Age or volcanoes or cosmic collisions

to create enough calories to kinda-sorta feed people in places far away and overfeed people in places close by (it takes about ten calories of petro-energy to make one calorie of food, consider petroleum to.....
a. drive tractors, combine-harvesters, crop dusters
b. make fertilizers and pesticides (we forget that locusts were a problem even in the United States, just ask a Mormon, especially one in Utah, not just insecticides but herbicides, because weeds compete for plant nutrients)
c. transport crops from farm to factory and from factory to store, by land, sea, and air, thousands of miles
d. package some of this food (plastic and foil wrappers)

Now, consider what could go wrong.....

1.  groundwater pollution or depletion
2.  topsoil or loss during drought or due to poor farming practices
3.  what happens when we can't liberally apply ten calories of petrochemicals per calorie of food (for 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day per American for 300 million of us?)
4.  climatic shift (global warming throws off the thermohaline cycle, volcanoes throw sulfur dioxide into the stratosphere reflecting sunlight back into space, darkening of sky due to asteroid/comet/nuclear war limited or massive/volcanos)
5.  global warming destroys enough land due to drought that arable land shrinks greatly in equatorial and tropical regions, more quickly than arable land at extreme latitudes

What if the carrying capacity of this planet drops to two billion people when we have seven, eight, nine billion people?

The first thing that happens is war.  Hungry people are not going to wait to die of hunger, watch their kids die, they're going to steal what someone else has, and somebody is going to die, and not from starvation.  Ditto for civil unrest and crime, lethal force and all.

Poorly fed people are sitting ducks for infectious disease, they have weakened immune systems.

The famine may happen I guess if they don't have the strength (or oil) to farm

And then they die.

Famine, war, pestilence, death, and you wonder where St. John got off talking about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse?
I read this in one of my Peak Oil books.  A declassified report considered the possibility in 1974 of simply invading the Middle East and seizing their oil.  The U.S.S.R. gave us pause.  Now there is no U.S.S.R.

Did anyone see Oil Apocalypse on History Channel Tuesday night? End of the episode, states with oil (Saudi Arabia) have nuclear weapons and use them to defend themselves against invasion, triggering event, when India, China, expand oil use and world uses 3x the oil it uses now, and terrorists hit a oil harbor in Saudi Arabia, unspecified military forces (but obviously American) invade the Middle East for oil.

An ex-Navy colleague disagrees, says we can drill for oil on the sea floor, the Earth is 70% ocean.  Where is our national will?
Tenacious, where is your science, or are you in denial?

It sure seems cruel though for people to reproduce just because of opportunity of food around, and then if the bottom drops out, death like we've never seen in the 30,000 years since modern humans replaced Neanderthal.  Only Satan could love that, "Satan laughing with delight the day the music died"
I can't take The Pill my body reacted violently to it.  I tried several different brands to no avail, I felt constantly nauseous had severe migraines, pins and needles in my hands and feet, numbness in my feet and I passed out a couple of times.  It took about a year before my body was properly back to normal.
The only food I ever throw away is salad, because it cannot be preserved more than a few days.  Meat can be frozen for months, bread for weeks.  But that requires a heck of a lot of energy to keep cold and then some energy to warm up.  Canned food lasts for months.

I would give my odds at wanting kids not much more than 20%.  I would definitely take matters into my own hands so she would not need a Pill.
Yes, Pakrat, that is a valid observation (smile, nod), but it would not do my heart any good.  See also http://www.aspiesforfreedom.com/showthread.php?tid=9409
