For all of you who are gifted musically, a rather vague request.

You see, I'm writing a novel that has as a principal character a very gifted young musician...I guess you'd call him a prodigy.  But being thoroughly un-musical myself, I'm having trouble with him.  Can any of you musicians describe for me how you create music, how it feels, how often your mind is preoccupied with melodies?

Any insight you can offer would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I would suggest the music forum to get more response.
The character's way of visualizing each sound as a three-dimensional shape, alive with color and light. To see the music and be able to translate paintings, photographies and whatever into a body of sound. To be able to enter this body as though it was a building and manipulate the visual manifest of the music on such a microscopic level that the human ear wouldn't be able to pick up the difference. To see music as a cool liquid fire that oils itself into you through your skin... etcetera...
That was lovely, ichtms, thank you.
