I am an artist in the process of creating an evening-length new genre performance/installation work titled "Waves of Mu."  The work is about mirror neurons and will touch on the idea of neurodiversity as a means to improve social attitudes about neural differences.  I have been collaborating with top mirror neuron researchers on this work (V.S. Ramachandran and Lindsay Oberman) -including one of the neurologists who helped discover it (Vittorio Gallese).  This is a complex work, design to offer an experiential understanding of mirror neurons and foster a connection between the often separate communities of art, science, and the public.  I am not an Aspie, but I am interested in having people with Asperger's perform in the work and be a part of it.  I will have new performers at each location on the tour.  The work is set to premiere at Performance Space 122 in New York City in Feb. 2008.  Hopefully through this forum I can connect with the right community. I am also seeking additional funding to support the work (some grant funding has been secured thus far).  Please visit my websites to learn about the work.  I welcome any questions, ideas, discussions.

I'm including all you say in my response for many good reasons (and you don't need to tell me you are not an "aspie" nor a genuine autistic) and my first move is this: gwynzkind@yahoo.co.uk I'm always available here.

As for your references, I don't recognise them, nor give a bugger; I will answer all your questions about us autistics (real ones, that is) and tell you the history the establishment don't want you to know, and when I'm sober, play you at any test of intellect of your choice.

OK I'm flacking Ihave toclose

Two questions"

1. what is the purpose of specifically targeting aspies to participate in this performance?

2. when you state, "This scenario correlates to Ramachandran’s idea that our brains grew larger long before
culture emerged because our mirror neurons, though already present in our anatomy, had not kicked in yet (http://amycaron.com/pdf/Tracing.pdf)."
~Why did R think it a sequencial progression rather than synergenic developemnt?

Hello Janet? I gather we are intended to meet? Your questions below seem strangely intelligent, perhaps even rational? You can easily find my e-mail address if you need too?

Would you expect any of us to be unintelligent or irrational?  I'd love to read your reponses to my questions on this thread - others might also wish to be part of this conversation.

I look forward to your next post....

And I would wellcome it; but why can I find no questions, "quotes" nor dates, and who the **** are you?
I have read some of V.S. Ramachandran's work, and think his understanding of Autism is way off, particularly his statements that Autistics have a deficient sense of self.
