Democracy has been doing okay for a while, so I think you're wrong on the "one and only way".

"Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried."
-- Winston Churchill

I do agree with him actualy.  But that is almost just like saying Democracy is the one of the best forms of goverment, but taking the "glass half empty" approach.

In theory they both work all right, communism and capitalism. In practice, both bring an end to variety. Communism by not producing it in the first place, capitalism because marketing tactics will make sure only a few brands remain.

I like the meddling in between.

I don't see how communism could work in a big society without dictatorship. And who is going to be the leader?
I don't see how pure capitalism could work without people that aren't that streetwise ending up in jobs were they get severely exploited.

Both, communism and capitalism are an utopic illusion.
But its OK to view both visions and get ideas from it, that we can try in this strange world we live in.

In the cold war you could see how people got in problems in the communist world and in the capitalist world for not acting by the society rules.

I do think that societies that are to big are losing perspective of the people that live in the society.
Hi all - Just for a slightly different take on the communism idea, I wanted to say that while it's difficult to say if it would work well for running an entire country, I believe it works very well for small groups. For example, if we ever got Autfinity Island up and running, it would probably have to be run as a commune, as we would not have enough people to get a viable economy up and running (At least at first).
I tend to agree with you EvilZakkie,

But the same may be true for capitalism. As long as the people in society still are visible as human, and not reducable to figures, harm being done to people is visible too. And so is the good being done. So if the society is small enough there is a kind of automatic ethics. The problem of a small secluded society is imo that you cannot escape if you don't fit in, or if they just don't like you.

The seclusion can be a problem.
I mean to say;

The importance of the community should be bigger than the hunger for power and/or greed. And that is easier when humans can't be reduced to numbers.

Kind of makes every guy that can't get over a girl seem tiny by comparison.

You made me laugh GuessWho, and I did not think anyone would succeed doing that this evening.

It's not the violence that made me laugh, but just the idea that the VS were like a boy, taking 50 years to get over a girl.
