Aspies For Freedom

Full Version: Not sure (Yup, it's another one of those topics)

Hey,

I did some youtubing today and came over a clip about Aspergers and noticed I had many of the "symptoms" of Aspergers. So I investigated further and took three of the tests linked on this page; http://www.thegeeksyndrome.com, http://www.msnbc.com/modules/newsweek/au...efault.asp, http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php.
In all of the tests I scored pretty high (higher than average aspie score), but I'm not sure if it was just my subconscience choosing the options that sounded Aspergerish or if I'm in fact an Aspie. A short description of me: I have very few friends (0-3, depends what qualifies a friend), and pretty much like it that way. I can drift out and look at almost anything just to look at every detail and pattern, as some kind of meditation. Sometimes in class I begin to talk to myself (out loud) when we are doing individual work. Tapping my fingers or doing one specific movement soothes me. I try as good as I can to stay away from the sunlight as it gives me headaches and forces me to squint. Social encounters exhausts me. When it comes to results at school I ace most school subjects (at this point in my education I'm doing what translates into A-levels or late High School (I'm 17 of age)). This was just an excerpt.

Does it look like I have aspie behaviour or am I just different (you know what I mean)?

Regards

P.S.
English is not my first language so I must apologise for any bad grammar or spelling.
Well, it sounds like Asperger to me. But I'm not officially diagnosed or anything, so I'm not sure. And I'm also no psychiatrist. But I still think it could be Asperger. I also recognize a lot of myself in the things you summed up.
Oh, and by the way, I think you're English is pretty good. (But English isn't my first language either, so again I'm not totally sure.)
Hello,

I personally believe you probably have Asperger’s Syndrome after reading your excerpt. Your behavior is extremely similar to mine (and I am officially diagnosed). I also have very few friends (and prefer it that way, as well Smile), I can not stand sunlight (used to wear sunglasses 24/7), and I ace most subjects at school, to name a few ‘symptoms’. So, if my Asperger’s label is correct, then I would not be surprised if you are Asperger’s as well.

Will

P.S., you’re English is extraordinarily good!

I'm not a geek, an academic (I did very poorly in school, almost did not make it through high school), an intellectual, a technician, a programmer, a mathematics freak (my worst subject), a science freak, a mechanically inclined person, or even a programmer.

But, that doesn't mean I don't have AS.

These stereotypes can be quite annoying for the Aspies who don't match them.

"arrgh", I guess your potential DX will benefit from your "Aspie package" of proficient math/science/academic ability.

But (and I'm only talking about myself right now) I'd say it's almost not fair how some people look at me and say "it's probably not AS," when I detail my lack of AS gifts.

So what.  I happen not to have have the "great package of Math, Science, and academics."  It's complete ignorance if someone thinks you need to have "some of that" to be an AS.  I don't have any of it.

To the OP, don't take it personally.  I just think out loud sometimes, and it seems more like a monologue I'm having with myself, than anyone else.  No offense intended.
