I swear a lot. I don't know why.

I must admit I am probably one of the worst offenders here and do apologise for any offense caused. I do try to use it in context and usually to highlight my strong desire to drive a point home or express an emotion.
I have recently moved from the country where it was part of the everyday venacular. I was certainly by no means the worst proponent of its usuage. Around the abbatoirs I just got very used to it young or old, male or female, made no difference and offense never taken.
I do apologise again. My usuage of this language is not to offend.

I don't swear very often, but a couple of years ago when I was going through a very bad patch, I unfortunately said a fair few f's & s's (but not on the forum - it was before I'd heard of this forum)

You may be right Dogbrain but it can still be effective, therefore it is often a valid fall back. There are times and situations where intellectual discourse will not yield the same results as "Mate back off before I punch your f****ing head in!" Sad but true!

BTW in case anyone can misinterpret the above comment, it was not directed at anyone. It has from time to time been used by me in speaking to men who have upset me in a face to face situation. It tends to work well hence comparing it to speaking to them in a way that contains no searing or strong language. It is not aimed at any member at AFF.

Swearing is tolerated very differently by people. For some this is a spice used few times and therefore has alot stronger meaning.

I use swear words in almost every sentance...but then again im a extremly hyperactive highschool student and half the time i have NO idea what im saying anyways, in fact half the time i have NO idea whats going on in general, in which adds to my frustration.
Well I tell all my friends if my swearing bothers them to tell me to stop. and so far no of them has said anything so that their own fault if they dont like it cause they havent said anything!!

I say motherf***er ALL the time LOL!!! And I put two swear words (or a swear word and a regular word) together to make a new word ALOT.
"c*nt-b**tch"
"f**k-tard"
"f**king-shit"
"f**king-idiot"
"god-f**k-it"
and the most used is probably the classic "WTF?!?!"
And LOL at the "ghetto mouth" comment you recieved.

Mom says "shit" all the time, but I guess it isn't much of an expletive in norwegian. Still it means the same thing.

An American comedian once similarly made the case that "shit" isn't much of a taboo word "Even mom says shit" he said "'Oh, shit! I burned the chicken!'"
I remember when I was about four years old I heard my mother say "Damn!" when she couldn't get the heater started. I was terrified she would go to hell for saying it.
My values have changed...
funniest thing with the word shit...
my mom packed up a bunch of clothes to donate or something and it was laying around EVERYWHERE. and she kept walking around..for er...like...10 minutes just saying "CHRIS!! LOOK AT ALL THIS SHIT!"

So Silky, how exactly do you define 'swear words'? Its my understanding that swear words are simply words that are socially unacceptable to use in most (social)occasions. In American(bourgeois)culture, bodily functions and sex are considered uncouth-and so its not acceptable to talk openly about them.Hence slangwords for genitals and bodily functions are regarded as swear words.
When I was a kid, "bum", "poo poo", "fart" and "piss" were considered really rude. It took a few years being at school before I learned most of the worse words.

Yes, little 3 and 4 year olds love to insult people by calling them "big poo poos" and similar.
