erkolos what has that got to do with the thread? At all?

Oops, please ignore my last post - I was trying to say maybe Erkolos is giving you (Louise18) a gentle hint to pull your head in and stop insulting people.

As just paraphrased on another thread.

Intelligence / IQ is not important, it is what you do with it that matters.

Louise 18 is showing us what she can't do with hers.

Not really all that bright is she?

She will never be my equal or the equal of most others on this thread in my opinion.

That's what I think too. Perhaps she will be a bit smarter once she turns 19.

Besides, I said I like everyone until they hurt someone. That means I then stop liking them. It doesn't mean that I think that they suddenly become inferior.

Yes, I know that there is no real equality of opportunity on this planet, but there can be equality of worth.

I'm not a superior being just because I was lucky enough to be born who I am and not a starving farmer's in a drought in another country.

Then what do you think of the situation where two people have the same opportunity and one makes more of it than the other?

Well, their experience and perception of the opportunity will vary. Also, this presumes that both people have the same means (financial etc) to capitalise on the opportunity.

I agree, Erkolos is very intelligent and expresses his arguments excellently. He is younger than Louise18 (at least I think so) but his comments show so much more of a mature outlook on life.
Louise18 would find Wrongplanet interesting because there are some people on that forum who make such similar comments and she'd feel right at home.
Yes, that's right. Thanks Erkolos for putting it far better than I could have. Smile
Also, if you're 19, you should change your name to Louise19.

But seriously, can you really suppose that every person who goes to your university will get a good job when they leave? Will you? I seriously doubt it if you don't sit down and have a really good look at yourself in the mirror and take a reality check.

People who take on legal representation don't want a lawyer who simply thinks they are superior to their client; they want somebody who will win their case for them. This includes making convincing, logical, and well-thought-out arguments.

I haven't seen much evidence of those qualities in your comments over the past few months though. Given a few years, it is hoped that you might develop some qualities of humility and commonsense. You are very young so there is hope for you yet.

Most university students, in the UK anyway, end up in crippling debt and unemployed.

Yeah, and that's why I think it is not always a good idea to go to university.

Also I would add, how would you know that your clients aren't criminals?
Oh yes:-

I would get told about the crime before I found out about the achievement. The crime would be in every newspaper. The achievement somewhere in the smallprint.

Louise, you have suggested that your views are not naive- however-
-what about the "people who build and run businesses" that you say you have a lot of respect for..whose 'businesses' are built on greed and on the exploitation of others? And whose crimes are NEVER reported in the newspapers..
And you are fooling yourself when you say that:
"criminals usually have no choice who they take as legal representation"
because often they DO have much money, which is then used to buy "the best" legal representation..

True. But I have very rarely seen a corporation do anything I consider to be morally wrong. I believe corporations should do whatever makes them the most profit. If they are up for a crime, they won't be hiring me, because I won't practice in that area of law.

Gee, you obviously haven't been around long then! Haven't you heard on the news all the stuff about Enron and numerous other corporations found guilty of major criminal behaviour?

Plus it's a very bad idea to believe all you read in the papers. The name of the game is sensationalism rather than giving readers the truth! God forbid that we ever know what is really going on in society.

Maybe, I don't think she'd be as furry as a monkey though.Smile
Ook! Ook!
And I wonder if you were ever told as I was, "girls can't do metalwork and woodwork". I also got quite bolshy about being directed towards the dolls at pre-school when I wanted to play with the blocks and cars, didn't want to do household chores unless my brothers did too, and so on.
Oh yes, there was always lots of concern that the boys might see our knickers. I used to get into trouble at school for climbing trees but at home, my parents didn't really mind.

Unfortunately, much of the sex education I got was "just say No". Good in theory but not in practice.
Yes, this perfectionism thing has proved something of a curse in my life too. I have low self confidence because I couldn't do things perfectly first go and thought that meant I was hopeless (and where it was sport, some kids did get impatient when I dropped the ball). It's improved somewhat in recent years, but I have a long way to go.
