One possible response to stupid teacher: "Well, maybe the reason they don't talk is because idiots like you just aren't worth the bother."

One possible more diplomatic response if you feel like being diplomatic: "Excuse me but I do find that offensive. You really shouldn't say things like that about people, because how would you feel if someone has said those things about you?"

Or, there is always the option of complaining to a third party with the power to chastise said stupid teacher.

I love your quote "It wasn't me, It was the inner monkey in me!" I will have to have a t shirt made like that.. LOVE IT! I have an inner monkey .. always will... NT 's are bright enough!  THey have outer monkeys... :x

Does anyone in this thread have even the slightest belief in God!?

Geez, this is depressing.  Where's GuessWho when you need him?

Batman, you made me laugh,

Thanks.

Needed that laugh,

I've sort of got the 'slightest belief'.

Creationism or Evolutionism are nonsense to me both.

I like creation theories. There loads of them. The bible has more than one. They're great in providing a way of understanding the origin of our social surroundings. Within the story of how it all came to be is interwoven religion, social existence, ethics.

I like evolution theories. And geological theories. They're great in providing a way of understanding the origin of our natural surroundings (dead and alive). But also in these theories you can find ethics and social preferences interwoven. The POV does matter.

I believe human's are defined by their achievements. If they contribute something to MIT academically, they have my respect. If they contribute nothing that could not be equally contributed by another they have not.

I was listening to a BBC radio programme last year, the subject matter was 'domestic abuse'.
The person being interviewed was the son of a ' Queens Surgeon ' I don't know if the Surgeons name was given, but I'm sure that he would have been a  very highly respected person.

He was also ( according to his son ) a Master of domestic abuse, he regularly beat his son, once throwing him downstairs causing a skull fracture, on other occasions the boy had broken limbs.
He beat his wife mercilessly & psychologically abused her.
His son said that he had told the wife, that if she ever went for help, he & his colleagues would ensure that she was Sectioned & placed in a Mental Hospital.

Would Louise18 respect this man & the many other professionals of his ilk ?

In my opinion all humans of all intellectual capacity are worthy of respect until they behave in such an evil way that only a human being can.

As far as scientific achievement is concerned, finding out what does not work still increases human knowledge, which is more important than the transient happiness of individuals who will disappear without a mark in history of their existence.

Louise 18 do you admire this man who was academically everything you purport to admire?

Just why do you need to repeatedly tell us that you are an 'Oxonian Law Student'?

You are British, don't you remember the London taxi driver who won the brain of Britain contest?

I have said it twice. Once because it was a relevant response to a comment someone made about me, and once because someone doubted it was true.

that could be twice to many & really I for one don't need to know, perhaps we could start another thread entitled 'how many qualifications have you got?'
So where did my quote come from?
& how about the Taxi Driver... menial job, but Brain of Britain.

Addendum. your computer will tell you where & how to find all of the extra keys on your keyboard.

I do think it is possible this thread has gotten confused on the point of what "respect" means.

Webster Online Wrote:
Main Entry: 1re·spect
Pronunciation: ri-'spekt
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin respectus, literally, act of looking back, from respicere to look back, regard, from re- + specere to look -- more at SPY
1 : a relation or reference to a particular thing or situation <remarks having respect to an earlier plan>
2 : an act of giving particular attention : CONSIDERATION
3 a : high or special regard : ESTEEM b : the quality or state of being esteemed c plural : expressions of respect or deference <paid our respects>
4 : PARTICULAR, DETAIL <a good plan in some respects>
- in respect of chiefly British : with respect to : CONCERNING
- in respect to : with respect to : CONCERNING
- with respect to : with reference to : in relation to

I can't say I understand what the word really means in the context of this thread.

Initially, I thought it was possible that Louise was referring to respect in her definition- which seemed to be applicable only to people she especially admires. It seems mean, since we talk about respecting those who are MR or can't seem to get a job and require additional services. But do we really mean respect? Or do we mean 'treat these people like fellow humans'? Or is that what respect means?

I can only speak for myself, I respect any human being who is a good person, by good, I mean a person who dies not deliberately harm others.
I cannot respect evil.
I have known people with VERY low IQ's who have been good & people with VERY high IQ's who have been bad.
Although I don't consider IQ tests to be relevant to many people & many cultures, I don't know of any other measurement of IQ that is in common use.

My every response is not tailored specifically to you. It is a piece of background information that seemed relevant in the context of my discussion with somenone else. If it is not relevant to you, then why bring it up?

It depends what else the taxi driver does with his intelligence. Currently, he is worth very little if that is all he does. However, he is worth more than a stupid taxi driver because of his potentia. Assuming brain of britain is about intelligence and not just general knowledge.

Addendum, I can't be bothered to look. This is an internet forum. It is not worth it.

I know that your remarks are not tailored to me, but you are the one posting them for all to see.
London Taxi Drivers must pass very rigorous exams in order to pursue their trade & must continue to do so.

Re addendum, it would be worth it in order to pursue your chosen career.

This is one of the saddest threads that I have ever read

No. You simply are not making yourself clear at all. How do you propose to go about life without a coherant set of fundamental assumptions which you are aware of and have tested? I am simply saying you have to have some logic behind your opinions. What are your opinions, and why are they those opinions is basically the question I am asking. You haven't said a thing that makes sense.

Well said.
I agree wholeheartedly, relatives need to be able to trust the people who are caring / teaching our loved ones.

Louise18.
Perhaps you are right after all &  people are not equal or should be treated as equals.

I wish you a long  & rewarding life.

I'm also sorry Ian.
But I'm with Tigger  & Erkolos on this.

NO ONE has the right to call another a pet monkey EVER for ANY reason.

I need to do some work just now..

I can't believe that this debate has gone on for this long. Louise, your posts on this subject have made anything else you might have to say utterly worthless, and I urge those reading along to ignore any future statements she may make.
