Many people with normalbrains don't contribute academically too (I would even say the majority of them).
Define "another".
The ast post of me was to Louise

If they contribute nothing that could not be equally contributed by another they have not.

So, the only sportsman who deserves being called a sportsman is the world champion?

Animals sure have consciousness and creativity. Insight is debatable.
Higher apes can learn from each other. They even "invented" a hammer (in that sense that they constructed a hammer without ever seeing it). In Africa shortly were found chimpanzee-made hammers, aged 4500 years, in a region where no human foot stood before.
THere is noone who is better than others OVERALL. Evereybody has strengths and weaknesses.
There is no such thing as an "important strength". A man who is able to memorize perfectly, a man who proves a theorem which was stated but not proven 200 for years and a man who is able to lift big weights are equally strong, even if those proving the theorem is physically disabled and the one lifting weights can't even say his name. Even some "bizarre" ability can find it's appliement. For example, the talles person in the world, Bao Xishun, seems to have no "ability", he is just tall. But once his help was really required: "In December 2006, Bao Xishun was asked by veterinarians to assist them in removing shards of plastic from the stomachs of two dolphins. The dolphins had accidentally swallowed the shards, which had settled in their stomachs and caused a loss of appetite and depression. Veterinarians had failed to remove them, so Bao Xishun used his 1.06 metre-long arms to reach into the dolphins' stomachs, to remove the plastic manually" (quote: wikipedia). ANY ability is useful and important.

Why do both of you asume louise is NT?  Just because she is intolerant and bigotted?  NTs are not the only people capable of bigotry, just so you know.  You should take a good, long look at yourselves and ask yourselves why you would make such an assumption.

that is so true lashire. i was on wrongplanet, and i saw hypocrites all over the place. one aspie admitted that he bullies anyone who appears to be "emo." then some misogynist chick creates threads expressing her hatred towards all women as individuals (exept herself). and many others don't have any respect for aspies that are willing to keep their diagnosis out of the closet. they think that all it does is draw bullies, and so they bully along with. people like that are the reason i rarely go to wrongplanet. i definitely prefer aspies for freedom, even though i don't get thread replies as quickly.

So, Louise18, you say only people with academical achievements deserve respect? Now, imagine EVERYBODY wiould go into academics & science (and have enough ability for it).! No garbage cleaners, no food production, no housebuilding etc. The humanity would get extinct a couple of years after "getting academical".
Retro? 80s?!!

Mine were all from the 50s. Tongue

Louise18 you have really amused me with your opinions (and let's face it they are just that and not very well thought out ones at that). The fact that you lord your superiority over the people you are discussing this wayward topic with has peaked my interest in debating this with you. For the record I am not an Oxford scholar. I have not got a degree. I am an ex-cleaner at an abattoir, so let's just say I am fair game here for an intellectual heavyweight like yourself.
Now a BIG problem I see with your premise is the understanding you seem to have of a lot of abstract concepts. They are not universal. Indeed words such as "value", "success", "respect", "intelligence" and the like mean different things to different people.
What efforts have you seriously made in defining these terms that are central in espousing your ideologies? It is not the sign of a good critical thinking mind that is not willing (or unable?) to define the parameters of such concepts. It is either saying I am allowing myself at any point to defend myself with "Yes but I didn't mean my argument to be taken or viewed in that light because what you believed I meant is not what I did mean" OR it is the assumption that everyone understands intrinsically that when you say an abstract word that their concept exactly matches your own.
Of course there is great risk in doing this. Whilst it does show you have a mind that allows itself to think about what the hell you are gibbering on about, it does expose your argument. You are unable then to redefine your argument without looking like you are scrambling IF your argument is unable to stand on it's own.

So how about it? Why don't you trawl through this couple of dozen of posts on this thread redefine what on Earth you were really trying to present and restructure and redefine what your argument was/is? Try it out on a "valueless" ex-cleaner. See how you go. It will hardly be a measure of critical thinking or academic fortitude or even intellectual superiority to soundly thrash me verbally on this forum, but.......I really think you are not that clever or that good at having people question you. I think it sounds like fun.

You (ex-cleaner) and I (ex-taxi driver and ex-postwoman) will be OK - Louise18 will be on the 'B' Ark. Wink

Hmmm not quite sure where I fit into this, But although I am a nurse, at one point due to serious money problems, I also worked in an abattoir (x two jobs), albeit packing bones & pigs ears , hosing down etc.  Big Grin

Does that count?
Can I come on the same Ark as you two? please???

Of course! Big Grin

Only people like television executives, lawyers and hairdressers got onto the 'B' Ark!

That was brave of you Batman. You are right, but I don't think Louise is at a point in her life where she is prepared to pay attention to anyone else's life experience, much less learn from it. I was lucky to have had friends and family who put me right at a young enough age before the perfectionism could spoil my life. I am therefore able to pass on that learning to my offspring. It must be terrible to be so driven but have no support.
Louise said somewhere she doesn't respect people who do only what they are paid for... Well, I BET certain percent of scientists (maybe even MAJORITY of them!) had money as their motivation.

Remember, for example: for solving the 7 (well, now this are 6) "millenium problems" in mathematics, one million dollar prize is promised. If not this "million guarantee", I bet 99% of people who spend their lives on trying to solve millenium problems, wouldn't try it. So people with academical achievements also do WHAT THEY ARE PAID FOR.
