Welcome Kev, I'm an Aspie mother of an almost 4 yr old son with moderate Autistic Disorder (classified as high functioning and getting more verbal despite having apraxia), and a quirky, advanced 20 month old (still out on the NT/AS/Autism issue). Their father is NT.
Hi Kev

welcome to AFF

from Stella In Brighton  Smile
One day I mean to visit the Staffordshire potteries at Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Fenton and Longton - I believe you can have a day out to them.

Stella
that sounds good, Kev. yum

It's Staffordhire Oatcakes isn't it?
(No I am not trained in spotting oatcakes, I just figured because they were mentioned in the previous posts   )

yes, you're right, Noetic.  They are Staffordshire Oatcakes.

It seems they can be bought at:

A.H.Short
62 Roundwell Street,
Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent
Tel: (01782) 834926

which means that one could combine a visit to the famous Tunstall pottery with a hearty meal of oatcakes, perhaps with cheese and mushrooms as Kev suggested, and a pot of tea to swill it down with!

Mmmh... if they are anything like the stuff I had in Chester, then they are delicious. Definitely make sure you try some  Big Grin

What does a pottery where you buy or make ceramics has to do with food?

Kev

I want to welcome you here too myself. As you probablty you know we are not against therapy. I know we have talked about TEACH. PECS some sensory integration.
I was thinking that AFF should put a whitepaper on treatments - explaining ewhy we dont like aversives but the aforementioned is prefereable and why.

In fact we should do a whitepaper on autism treatments that are fraudelant like son-rise.
what is an oat cake?

did anyone else (and I'm particularly appealing to you cute and cuddly types who think anyone should be given the benefit of the doubt) notice how all Noetic's posts on this thread, irrespective of the Aspie influences of this debate, resolutely focused on such important considerations as...oatcakes!

gwynfryn - Guilty as charged.

As I recognised the image posted by "Guest" (presumably in response to somene mentioning the Staffordshire oatcakes on the first page), and Stella was asking whether it was Mexican food, I felt it only right to let her know what they were.

If anyone has a problem with that, then please move the oatcake-related posts to a different thread, so gwynfryn can return to nursing his bottle and not be bothered by further oatcake-related postings  :-(

Big Grin hello kev, i know that you have replied to my postings but i thought it would be rather nice if i introduced properly, im julieanne and i live on the sunny isle of wight !! i have family in worcestershire so thats not far from you either !! looking forward to chatting again with you, i have a 4yr old son with ASD and a another son who is 7 yrs and fine. check out the chat room some of us meet there and its a good way to explain your worrys and have a llaugh at the same time.

...we could have a thread for AFO! (Aspies for Oatcakes!) Tongue

Or just a thread containing yummy stuff. So people who haven't had their lunch/dinner yet know better not to look at it and end up drooling all over their keyboards. Like I just did. *Grumble* why do I have to eat soup for lunch every day?  :-(
(Oh that's right because I can't be bothered to prepare a proper meal to take to work with me!)
