European royalty.

I'm probably the only person in England who was thinking last week, what a pity the Concert for Diana clashed with the christening of Princess Isabella of Denmark - another missed opportunity for Will & Harry to get to know their continental counterparts. Up to now the Queen has tended to send the Wessexes (Ed & Soph) to the European jollies, but Sophie's just announced she's pregnant again at the ripe age of 42. So will any of the Windsors go to Princess Victoria of Sweden's 30th birthday party?

Victoria is the firstborn of the current King & Queen of Sweden and are therefore to be labeled Crown princess.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I must have been in too much of a hurry to include the word "Crown".
Of course not all firstborn daughters of monarchs get to be Crown Princess, e.g. Martha Louise of Norway, Elena of Spain.

It's difficult not to learn anything about Swedish Royalty as I'm from Sweden. They had to change the constitution when Queen Silvia delivered a daughter.

I think there's a possibility that Victoria's brother Prince Carl-Philip is on the spectrum, and maybe the King himself.

The Salvation Army co-op has a large section with books and it's quite orderly but some customers seem not to see the meaning of order or even that there are others who might be after the books they treat badly. I'm always putting books back in their right place or fixing the mess of books leaning in faulty manner. Sometimes I spy on others as they rumage through the shelves, on the brink of screaming; "Don't you fuckin treat them books like that, Idiot!"

I once put my grandmother's book collection in alphabetical order. She wasn't too happy because in so doing I mixed up the children's and grown-up's fiction!

Oh, that brought me back to my early teens when I re-arranged the books in a friends-to-the-family's bookshelf by size. Biggest books to the left and then smaller. They didn't appreciate my help! I thought that was the most peculiar thing of all.

I've been a referee, commentator and manager! And at the moment I'm doing publicity for my local promotion, and maybe making my managerial comeback sooner rather than later!

But all up, pro wrestling is number 2 on my narrow interest hit parade. Number 1 is football (Australian Rules that is). If you want to be bored go here;

Amongst other interests!

I vaguely recall an Australian series from around 1997 that maybe had a character named Elvis; he had something to do with a dry cleaner, and he had a friend with severe facial tics...

Anyone know what I'm referring to??? Please know!!!
Roman Polanski???
The world is my ?Narrow? interest. It's a zillion piece puzzle. Why it is the way it is.
My latest narrow interest which was triggered a few days back by the news report on CNN about Senator Larry Craig's arrest for "indecent behaviour" is bathroom buggery Big Grin :LOL! Ive been somewhat discrete about it cuz many people automatically assume that finding such things amusing is a sign of homosexuality. Well even if it is, so be it. Wink
Ive never witnessed it but if I stumbled upon it there's no doubt I would crack up with tear-jerking laughter!
But where do guys learn that tapping your foot thrice while defocating in a stall is a signal to the other guys in the adjacent stalls that you wanna get pegged?

With the exception of Tajikistan, all the languages of the 'Stans (as well as Azerbaijan, in the Caucasus region), are all related to Turkish.

The nation of Turkmenistan was led by Sapumurat Niyazov from 1985 until his death in December 2006 (the first 6 of those years were when Turkmenistan was still part of the Soviet Union).  He called himself "Turkmenbashi" (Father of the Turkmen People).  He renamed the month of January Turkmenbashi.  He built a golden statue of himself that rotated so that it would face the sun.  He closed all hospitals and libraries outside the capital city of Ashgabat.  His book of morality, Rukhnama, was required reading in order to receive even a driver's license or a wedding certificate.

The Baikonur Cosmodrome is in Kazakhstan, although it is used by Russia.

The leader of Uzbekistan is Islam Karimov.  Despite his name, he is a secularist and supposedly has distant Jewish ancestry.

Amazing where this thread meanders... have ^ seen Charles Duff's "A New Handbook on Hanging"; the Definitive Edition of 1954? or Justin Atholl's "The Reluctant Hangman; the public and private life of a hangman." the story of James Berry, Executioner 1884-1892. contents include a scale that shows the striking force of falling bodies at different distances.

Well, That's a good answer and it fit as replies to two different threads. TongueTongueTongue

LOTR; Alas, I understand what that most peculiar abbreviation means. Need I say that I haven't read JRRT?
