Are you bothered by the camera. I cannot stand people filming me. I've got Media Coursework comin up soon, and we have to film. I'm dreading it!

A Theory for Camera Shyness

Camera shyness is probably not limited to aspies, though it may be more pronounced for aspies.  I had a couple of video tape experiences about 15 years ago in which, after seeing my image on TV, I said, "Is that me?  I can't believe I look that pathetic."  Yet the other people in the videos (my fellow high school classmates) seemed perfectly normal to me.  I realized the reason for this is that I saw these people and interacted with them and their faces every day - an interaction impossible with my own face.  So when I finally saw my face from another person's perspective, I could not recognize the image as my own.

In general, you can be very comfortable with seeing any still photo or video image of anyone on Earth because you accept them as they are.  Just think of all the people who make fools of themselves on Youtube.  No big deal.  Though, once you see your own image, you may feel uncomfortable because you do not want to appear lower than your own ideals.

As for my own camera shyness... I just took a few photos of myself this morning.  I used to be camera shy until I got my first digital camera a few months ago.  I began taking pictures of myself for three reasons: (1) to eventually post my picture on a dating site, (2) to thoroughly document this part of my life on account of very few photos of me in years past, (3) because I have no friends to take pictures of.
