Aspies might "lack a theory of mind" (whatever that's supposed to mean) but they generally avoid physically harming people.
Went on in a similarly nasty vein, for a while, then damned if it didn't rephrase the same crap again, and make autism sound like a dirty word, or more like, a synonym for being a violent psychopathic gobshite.
I fired off a letter as soon as I finished reading that little gem, pointing that out, along with a few other things, I reckon it might be a good thing if a few others of us in the autie community did the same thing.
While I disagree with the rest of his post, as always he's not *all* wrong:
"Problems are not solved by hiding information"
Too true, although what he reads into the information isn't what actually happened in this case - that autism didn't "make him do it" should be clear. Yes it can in some cause certain obsessive and even aggressive behaviours (rare but it happens) that can become very dangerous but it is never the SOLE cause of a person's actions.
"People who are strange don't have friends and no ammount of societal do-gooding is going to change that."
Again, while "fon't have friends" (at all) is an exaggeration, it is true that do-gooding and political correctness will never make the very real problems eperienced by many on the spectrum go away. If people with autism start blaming NTs for the way they are wired (socially etc.) they are no better than the NTs who blame an autistic person for the way he or she is wired...

I'm wondering whether it would make sense for me to send a reply to the administration to the effect that people with AS are not more likely than anyone else to be violent. Would such an e-mail help, or would it just place into the admins' heads the idea that AS=violence, since I myself am an Aspie and might simply be defending others of "my kind"?
after all, they now have the precedent..
they may use 'erratic behaviors' or 'potentially offensive' behavior as excuses to have us removed.
i will personally be carrying a Dictaphone to college and spare tapes for the next few months,so if it happens i can *** well prove it.you wont catch me without a fight...(please not i am in a really aggressive mood tonight.(also note, lurkers, that i haven't reached for my Bows-not that i have any decent string at the moment-or my Swords)
Silly NTs.Although, I'd be happier around an autistic gun nut than a non-autistic gun nut. Having a liking for order would probably mean you'd observe proper safety precautions... unlike, say, a certain Vice President.
i think its all about how you are brought up.
the brightest man in the world was a aspie, and the most dangerous woman in the world was/is aspie aswell.
i mean, think about it
if we want we could be mad scientists.
Who are these individuals you are talking about?
Kylo, you're referring to childhood disintegrative disorder, right? CDD is the type of autism where regression occurs after a year or two of superficially normal development--the child loses speech and communication skills previously gained. That's opposed to Kanner's autism, where communication is delayed/idiosyncratic to begin with; Asperger's, where communication, but not speech, is impaired; and Rett Syndrome, which is a lot like CDD except that it occurs only in females and involves characteristic stims.

Nobody like that should be allowed anywhere near a firearm, any more than a blind person should be allowed to get behind the wheel of a car.
You're entitled to believe that, it was your statements about autism I was objecting to first and foremost (i.e comments that seemed to imply you can't have autism if you speak and suchlike)
