That's not good at all, as the majority of people will now think autistic kids have the potential to be murderers.
Society is so stupid because they always categorize people. They always want to put labels on people and call them "mentally ill" or "schizophrenic"
or "evil" or "psychotic", etc. At least they're not being so stupid this time as to make it a racial issue. I think the reason for that is because before this school shooting, the worst one had been Columbine, and the shooters there were Caucasian.

But I'm telling you, that society is so idiotic, that they always want to group people together, or put them under a label. They categorize people then out of their stupidity they think everyone in that category they made up thinks the same, behaves the same, etc, and they separate that category from other categories. It's absolutely ridiculous. But society never looks at the individual. This is one reason why we have school shootings and mass murders in the first place.

Society doesn't see that every person has their own traits, own personality, own characteristics, emotions, etc. Which brings us back to Cho and him allegedly having Asperger's, I think that will be getting increasingly more scrutiny from now on. Because they have finally found a category to put him under. He also had a lot in common with Klebold and Harris (the Columbine shooters), so they are probably already blaming autism.

These kids were loners, they were treated cruelly, they were smart enough to realize what crap society really is, and how messed up this world is, so they made the ultimate decision. "Experts" will try to analyze them and why they did what they did, and they will either blame it on autism, or mental illness, or whatever, but any real person who has ever felt lost in this cruel world will know exactly why these kids did what they did. How many more kids do you think are out there like this who may have thought about doing the same, but just have had the judgment not to do it in the end? There are probably many.

These aren't diseased, deranged, individuals, or psychotic evil monsters, they are human beings, smart kids, nice kids, who just made a drastic decision in the end because they found themselves in a cruel world that they don't deserve. In the end, the made their own decisions about what they did, they didn't have to do it, they could have thought over it some more and chosen to continue on, but for some reason, probably because they felt everything was so wrong, they took drastic action. But when I look at it, I see them as the victims, I see these kids as the ones whose lives were destroyed, and I can truly understand what drove them to it.

I've been there...the cruel insults, the taunting, not getting the recognition or the respect, watching society put certain people on a pedastal because they conform to what it wants, the hypocrisy, the bs...all of it. I understand exactly what Seung-Hui Cho or Eric Harris, or Dylan Klebold must have felt like living in this idiotic world, but in the end, I have had a few people who were kind to me, who took the time to listen to me, and understand, and sympathize with me, who realized that just because I didn't fit in with the other people that didn't make me weird, or crazy or stupid like what people had labeled me before. I guess it's because I have hope, and these kids didn't. Maybe if someone had actually cared about what they felt like and tried to listen to them and understand, they wouldn't have taken the path they did.

So as people judge them, and label them, and call them cowards or psychos, or evil-doers, let's hope there are actually people out there who aren't like that and actually understand them, because that's the only way to prevent things like this from happening again. If people take the time to change society, to be kind to others, to understand the hypocrisy, the injustice and unfairness, and the superficiality that plagues society, then things will begin to improve. And when things begin to improve, kids like Cho, and Harris, and Klebold will have a better chance than what this world gave them.
South Korean Americans are horrified that one of theirs committed this crime. Although there has not been a mention of a backlash against Koreans about this, they are fearful.  This is because when a girl was killed in an auto accident caused by two Americans in South Korea a few years ago there were weeks of demonstrations against America by the citizens there.  They are a one culture society (like Japan) and cannot comprehend the tolerence for other cultures and nationalities that we have in our country. We should be proud of that.
I second what rossco said. Open a thread where all of these autistic bashing articles can go where we as a community know where to go to put a well thought out rebuttal. With the articles scattered everywhere (they could just be copied and pasted into that thread and still be where they originally were) its harder for those who wrote them to see our opinions even if they wanted to see them.

We need to fight these false allegations. They are ridiculous.
ichtms, if we all responded with our own rebuttals to each one (or whomever felt like one) then signed a petition or flooded the editors with those rebuttals, that would help the cause. If they did decide to check it out they'd say "wow, there are over *insert number* responses to this article and that one, maybe its not such a good idea."

BUT... here's what another expert said:

Schizophrenia, which affects a half-percent of the U.S. population, is a mental illness that can be difficult to diagnose at its onset, Ochberg said. Those grappling with the early stages may become defensive as they recognize their own mental faculties are failing.

"Along the way it blunts your instinct for social behavior so you look a little like an autistic or Asperger's person," he said.

There's nothing I've read yet that sounds remotely conclusive on Cho vis-a-vis Asperger's or Autism. Killing 32 people sounds a hell of a lot more like Schizophrenia...

The paucity of speech, the onset, was well before the age of onset of schizophrenia (> 15 for a male) and in fact was noted prior to immigration to the U.S. Even in the rare cases of early onset schizophrenia, which is more severe and debilitating in cognitive abilities , it is improbable that an individual afflicted so young would gain admission to VT, complete assignments and methodically plan such a horrendous act.

Ochberg is obviously not an expert because the prevalence of schizophrenia in the United States is actually 1%. What is clear is that this individual was in need of intervention from a young age. Perhaps instead of attributing violence to a particular mental disorder we should reframe the issue as one as the difference between living with a chronic but treatable illness vs living with a serious and potentially dangerous untreated illness.

Yeah, and I guess Adolph Hitler (coincidental his birthday was last Friday) was picked on as a youth by some Jewish Banker's kids, and he was just "misunderstood" by society.  The bottom line is we live in a fallen world full of sin, evil, misunderstanding, whatever you want to call it.  But the bottom line is we all have choices to make every day of our lives, and to just blame our choices on "others", society, lack of funding, our parents, etc. is just a cop-out.  You reap what you sow.  Even blaming it on the devil (who I believe Cho was allowing to rule is mind and soul) is a cop-out.  The devil, our desires, our emotions, etc. can only control us to the extent we allow them to.

I share your dislike of trite labels.  "Autisitc", "ADD", etc.  just passes the buck.  That Cho ended up a twisted, tormented sinner is apparent.  Look at what he dabbled in, look at what he read, what he listened to.  Look at his fruit. You reap what you sow.

The only man in history to never mess up, to never sin, to never "misunderstand" nor "pick on others" was born on this Earth on a mission of love, and we and our ancestors caused him to be picked on, beaten and brutally murdered, nailed to a cross.  God saw what a twisted heap of misery and sin mankind had chosen to become, and he sent his son to offer us an escape from the mess we had put ourselves in, and continue to put ourselves in with each succeeding generation.  Jesus Christ died for Cho, you, me, Adolph and every other lost sinner in the world.  The only difference between the lost and the saved is some realized we are lost as long as we demand our own way, we realized how inherently evil and wicked our sin nature is, we repented and surrendered our will and our lives to Jesus and accepted his invitation to be our Lord and Savior and for us to be God's children.

I read that Cho briefly attended a church in a denomination that historically teaches a false doctrine of fatality, that God makes us the way we are and we have no choice in the matter.  I do not agree with that false doctrine.  Cho died in his sin and will, according to my understanding of scripture, be judged in some manner by God for the consequences of his sin.  I cannot and will not judge Cho, but I cannot blame his actions on others, nor can I agree with you that he was a "nice kid".  This was a spiritual battle, and from what I interpret from Cho's manifesto, Cho allowed the spirits of depression, paranoia, jealosy, anger and resentment to take control of his life, because he felt he deserved better.

We all have our problems, we all have those spiritual battles we must face and fight every day.  Like Cho, I have hated the rich snobs.  Like you and millions of others, I was taunted, picked on and mistreated.  I still am today and I would not be surprised at continued trials and tribulations to come.  I am not exactly a loner, but many days I feel like I am standing alone against a cruel society.  But it does not compare to what Jesus went through for you and for me, and as Jesus was hanging ***, humiliated and abused nailed to a post he said "Father, forgive them...".  If Jesus, being who he was, could say that for all the unfairness and crualty mankind had heaped on him, can we not forgive the person that hurts us?

But I have also been guilty of the same treatment I despise.  I have teased, I have been unkind and hurtful to others.  I find myself in a cruel fallen society, but one that you and I and all of us deserve because of our sin and our willful desire to be gods of our little universes.  The first step to healing and salvation is to realize you can only blame yourself for your own sin.

Like Cho, I was dead in my sins.  What I find myself in now, however, is the comfort of God's grace and forgiveness and salvation, a gift I did not deserve.

My old sin nature is no better nor worse than Freud's, Calvin's, Luther's, Cho's, Klebold's, Hitler's, nor yours.  Have you ever noticed how demanding and selfish and self-centered a newborn infant is?  You and I were born sinners.  Mankind can try to shape us and rehabilitate us through medications, diagnosis, self-esteem seminars, rules and regulations, but ultimately it is our choice and no one can become righteous nor truly healed through their own efforts nor the efforts of other sinful men.  It is like the blind leading the blind, they all will eventually fall into a pit.

God declares all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God, and the wages of our sin is eternal death (what we really deserve), but God so loved the world that he sent us his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, that whoever believes on him (including all that that really means) would not perish in their sin but would have the gift of eternal life.

God gives each person the power to choose.  I have to "kill" my old sin nature daily, not allow it to have a foothold in my heart and mind.  God loves you and me and He invites us to choose Him as our boss, our Lord and our Saviour.  Choose this day whom you will serve...as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

I know many label me as a "religious fanatic", "idiot" or other unkind term.  I forgive them, and I praise God for his forgiveness and his grace, and I will be praying for all those hurting individuals from last week, and will be praying for you!  Thirty two individuals woke up last Monday at Virginia Tech expecting to have a normal typical day.  Life is short, too short to hate, too short to blame others, too short to have a victim's mentality, too short to put off God's invitation.  God loves you, and wants to be your Father.  Will you be His child?  Forgive those who have mistreated you, ask God to forgive your sin and surrender your life, "victim mentality", will and emotions to Him, and God will bless and love you forever!

Yes SavedByGod, do not bring Jesus into this. I don't believe Jesus was born from God and blah, blah, blah,

Rosco
Sorry you feel the way you do.  The name or mention of Jesus is offensive to nonbelievers, and I mean you and other nonbelievers no disrespect (we are all entitled to our own beliefs) but I am commanded by God.  If Jesus was just a man, why did his Jewish disciples give their very lives to proclaim his good news?  They could have just gone back to their families and professions, taken the easy road out.  Why did the early Christians give up their very lives in the face of public pressure and persecution for centuries?

Jesus is the Son of God, and God raised him from the dead.  By the stripes of Jesus we are healed and set free, not by some psychiatrist's couch or medication.
This website is for the sick, seeking freedom, is it not?

There is victory and freedom in Jesus.

I will pray for you that God draws you and softens your heart that someday you may learn the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

SavedByGod, having read your post and Rossco's, I'll have to agree with Rossco and Batman55.

If you want to preach to people, please start a "Jesus Loves Me" thread all its own and confine your evangelical compulsions to that thread. Anyone who wants to join you in your religious zeal can find you there and the rest of us won't have to endure your smug condemnations.

amen
It's the SMUGNESS which has always irritated me.
The bible being collated struck me as very funny for some reason, Rossco as did SAVED by the BAN BUTTON. Batman55 Smile
Back to Cho?
I just skim read  latest TIME mag article on Cho-didn't see any references about Cho having autism..

"This website is for the sick, seeking freedom, is it not?"
Nope. Who is sick and how?

I did warn you not to bring religion into this thread....

Rossco,

You sound like Cho now, "I did warn you...you made me do it".  You can justify all your nastiness and ill temper you want, as did Cho.  So it appears you share more with Cho than just your mutual denial of your illnesses and other shortcomings.

All of us with varying degrees of Aspergers or Autism or other mental problems on this website are not ALL sick, just the ones that claim there is nothing wrong with them, do nothing to change, and demand that others stop reacting to their bad behaviors.  I freely admit I needed help, and still do,  and that I don't have all knowledge, and so should you and the other experts on this thread.

I first posted on this thread with a word of encouragement for Mellisa, and shared what has worked for me.  The fact that it makes you and others intolerant and nasty is entirely your own problem.

I do not condemn you or any other proud pagans, heretics and heathens flaming Christianity or blogging on this site or elsewhere.  With your own words you condemn yourself.  I feel sadness for you and those others denying Jesus Christ, denying their need for help, and those blaming others for their sin and their rejection of Christ ("Society made me do it"). You are entitled to your opinions and actions and will bear the consequences of them, as will Cho.

If I was wrong in what I believe, you and I will simply fade into oblivion when our days on Earth are over.  If you are wrong in what you claim to believe, the outcome for you will be infinitely worse.   That is what the spiritual darkness, the prince of this world, Satan wants.

Skip the ban button, I will not be replying further to you or the other respondents on this thread in the future on this issue.  I shake off the dust under my feet.

"John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
3:17
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
3:18
He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
3:19
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."

"Matthew 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast  your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. "

"Mark 6:11  And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when you depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city."
