This was because of my controversial pic on deviantart.

Wrong to eliminate autism? You would rather have children be unable to speak and care for themselves? You would rather have them be easy targets for abuse and neglect?

Get a grip. And before you accuse me of being a horrific Nazi neurotypical who cannot fathom your epic suffering - guess what? I have Asperger's. Consider your 'omgyouzdununnastandmahsorrowww' *** useless.

However vehemently you despise being associated with an image of weakness, most full-blown autistic children are disabled and need help. Do not attempt to tell me that the four-year-old autistic child I mentor who is still in diapers and cannot utter a single unbroken word is 'unqiue'. Autism of that nature is a tragedy, moron. Reat it again - tragedy. Nothing pisses me off more than a whiny Aspie that ignores the severity of autism to protect his or her pwecious widdle insecurities.

What? Did someone tease you for stuttering when you were young? Did someone give you a widdle wedgie? Grow the *** up, please. Look at it this way - at least you can speak and feed yourself, unlike those autistic children you like to ignore.

In some ways she's right, but the only thing I really see anything "tragic" about autism is the treatment in society of it.

this person seems a bit too emotional to be aspie.

I've got news for you, emotion is NOT utterly alien to all Aspergics.  The "Mr. Spock" image is not diagnostic, no matter how often it is ignorantly foisted upon us via the popular press.

They mention the bullying (teasing for stuttering and wedgies) but they are bullying you in their message.

So?  What is your point?

but we are commonly not that verbal with it. though it was typing so they might had an easier time of it. bullying often beget more bullying i responce.
Well, I thought about what you all said & I told the person off. I admitted that I made a lot of mistakes in the past, but at least I try to make up & appologize for it.
Just to let you know, I deleted the pic I had on my site (I realized it was too offensive & contraversial), but I told the person that it doesn't change how I feel about how autism should be dealt with.
Her pointing out of being an Aspie bothers me. Maybe it's just an expectation from me but someone who has AS would be more...sympathetic? From what I see I think she sees AS as not a big factor for her, which is why she (seems) to advocate stripping autism from the child she mentors but not herself. Either that or she's lying about having AS.

As for the venom she seems to put out i've seen something similar to it. Even if she is an Aspie.
Its not really consent when you realize that you've been spoon fed "it" your entire existence.

Here's a good philosophical one for ya:

Like a baby elephant that has been chained since it could stand, when he's grown and can easily pull the chain away from the attachment, is it really "freedom" to cut him loose acting in his best interest?

If you have ever watched the Matrix movies, when Neo realizes that it wasn't WHAT the decision that he made was bothering him, but WHY he made it, how can someone ever have "freedom" if the only thing that they've ever known is control?

Don't get me wrong, tyranny over men's minds is the worst thing that can happen on this planet.  Let's say for arguments sake that you grew up on an island and never knew anything about control and only "freedom", how would you react that first time that someone tried to control you?  Keep in mind, your reaction is how society will judge you for the rest of your time in it.

And NT's wonder why we don't like to be around them...

Information is just that, its in the analysis where people make the determination of right or wrong.  Who's to say who's correct?

Is it that you've never bothered to ask the question, or is it that the question was never bothered to be asked?
I'm sorry that you got flamed, that sucks.

Regarding a "cure" though... How are we all actually defining the word "cure"?
Are we talking about a "cure all"? Or are we talking about a range of cures for specific symptoms?

It seems to me that people who are LFA deserve a better quality of life through a range of treatments as they become available but I can't imagine that there is ever going to be a magic pill that suddenly makes everyone NT.

If you look at what's currently being done, the idea that there is going to be one "cure all" is presently science fiction.

My concern here though is that if a range of treatments were to become available that people who are fully autistic are in danger of being used as unwilling test subjects just because their parents would wish them to be more NT - case in point I saw a news item on a school in NY that recieves U.S schools funding and advocates the use of shock treatment for Auties and Aspies. Now that's sick.
That person who flamed you seemed very irrational, and might want to learn how to spell and punctuate.  The flamer didn't even mention whether or not she would want herself "cured", and accused you of seeking pity when most people here seem full of pride.  She obviously didn't bother to find out, otherwise she would have realized many here are not ignoring LFAs.  She failed to make enough connections between concepts used in her argument.

The way I see it, there is justification for using a procedure on an LFA, if and only if it might open a channel of communication so that the LFA can make his/her wishes known.  (e.g. restore ability to speak or dexterity to use a speech synthesiser or sign language.)

I think this whole "cure" thing is a myth, which is never going to happen.  It will just be a continuation of trendy and often dangerous treatments.  It seems more logical to me to hope an LFA can become more Aspie-like, but trying to make an autistic into an NT would be like trying to make an apple into an orange. </metaphor>  I once heard a medical physicist say that if anybody ever finds a cure for cancer, that person will probably be murdered (mafia-style, I assume) within 24 hours.  The reason is because there is a "cancer industry" that has become too lucrative to ever end.  Same thing with the "autism industry".  The unobtainable "cure" is just advertising for the autism industry, to keep getting attention despite all the divisiveness it causes.

The flamer used bullying as an example.  So somebody wants Aspie kids to take some dangerous "cure" attempt so that they might not be a target for bullies?  The bullies are going to go after any kid sooner or later, no matter what.  Has it not occurred to anyone that maybe the best way to stop bullying is to go after the bullies, not their victims?  And maybe, they should make up a syndrome to describe bullies.  Then bullies wouldn't be able to call themselves "normal" either.
Aren't there a few well-known trolls that go around to all the sites and stir up trouble with Aspies any chance they get?  I just remember looking at somebody's blog and noticing the nastiest flamer there had a vaguely familiar user name.
One of my children was in diapers and nonverbal at age 4.  He did start to speak around age 6 and eventually was able to do self-care things.  He now would be considered HFA.  But even before he spoke he was able to communicate with sign language (much of it he made up himself) and grunted inflections.  He had passions and interests, and could be a very tender and loving child.  Why is it that society focusses so much on the non-verbality and bathroom issues instead of seeing the rest of the child?  Of course you should do what you can about the language and self-care, but that's not the be all end all of any human being.

As far as needing to be "cured" so as to avoid being a target for bullies... that's outrageous.  The "sickness" is with the bullies, not the target.

I don't understand why Korrigan has been banned.

And the old post that you quoted hardly provides reason for a warning, far less a ban.  As Max  points out, Korrigan has offered much advice to Johanna, and I'm sure I saw Johanna referring to Korrigan as a friend within the past few days.

As for the posting of pms, I've seen that done many times on AFF and there were no bans.

I don't understand why Korrigan was banned either.

Is posting pms publicly now a 'serious offense' and against the rules?
When did the posting of pms become such an important and serious offense that it merits a ban? Today?

Quote:
Easiest solution is just to not post PMs from now on - and yes, the fact that Korrigan was banned over this sucks, but there's not much we can do about that.

The fact that Korrigan was banned over this more than sucks, it's total bullshit. Just my opinion.

I JUST NOTICED THIS. Really,  What  the  f uck  is  this.. again?

What are you doing, Amy?

I think this goes beyond total bullshit into the realm of absolute absurdity.

Huh.  Here I thought that we had much more important things to do than be caught up in high school dramas.  I may be relatively new here (haven't posted for a long time, mostly lurking for the past several weeks), but even I can tell that something isn't quite right with this picture.  The banhammer's too well-worn, tensions are too high, and people are too easily driven to low spirits.  If it were a different situation, I'd prescribe a no-holds-barred orgy to clear the tension and ease the stress, but that may just stress some of us out even more.  Instead, I'd recommend screaming into a pillow before posting to let out the anger.
No, I didn't call for an apocalypse, at least not yet.  Let's try the orgy first.  If THAT fails, then we can try ending the world.
