i want to find out how many people would like/dislike to be cured of autistic spectrum disorders.
personally i love my mind(some downsides though!) and i hate to be asked if i woul like to be cured...although i would love to switch minds for a day with a NT person so they could experience AS and ADHD whilst i experience so called 'normal' life

I wouldn't want to be NT, and if I ever had kids (not likely), I wouldn't want them to be NT either. Not that I'm against their way of life, however, it's just that a lot of the things normal people do seem quite unproductive compared to what Aspies do. I would much rather be obsessing over snakes and fish than over fashion and celebrities and stuff like that.
I'm pretty much the only 18 year old girl I know that likes to spend most of her time outside getting dirty and catching snakes and bugs (and other things most normal people don't like), but I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Natalie:
What kind of snake is that in the pictures, and how did you manage to handle that scorpion without getting stung?
i like me any one who want to change me ,can go jump in a frozen lake.
wow- its nice to hear so many people see the positives to an autistic spectrum disorder.
I love my aspergers and ADHD

Has anybody ever been told to just act 'normal' by someone who thinks that all people with disorders are attention seeking? --i hate these people, they simply do not wish to understand us.

Not wanting to be cured isn't the best argument we got agains't curebie parents
Here's how they respond to that:
"You say you don't want to be cured, but your brain is broken, so what you want or don't want doesn't matter."
I wouldn't say 'I love me' but I definitely wouldn't want to be cured!
I'm me, I've been me for 25 years, and if I got rid of my AS traits I wouldn't be me anymore. I'm used to being me!
Even if they could cure AS, which I doubt would ever happen, I would not want to be cured of the way I am.

Nah, that just sound nazi. I don't think curebie parents say that directly.
they might imply it though.

That's probably where I'd get really nasty and say something like "I challenge you to an IQ test." When you get a diploma, it usually has a second copy in the form of a small laminated card. I guess I'll have to start carrying the one from my master's degree around in my wallet, and if somebody gives me that "your brain is broken" crap, I'll just show them that and say, "Okay, let me see you earn yourself one of THESE!" (I figure if somebody tells me my brain is broken, I've got the go-ahead to act like a snotty prick and fire back at their self-esteem.)
Callista, I hate to hear about that. Maybe it's time for you to use this site for some networking. (Maybe elaborate on it in the Work Issues forum.) You're one of the most interesting posters here.
