For a while, I've been thinking about the benifits of being able to use either hand to perform a task. Such as writing, drawing, painting, using the phone, brushing my teeth, etc. What if my right hand was terribly sore, but I wanted to draw or write in my diary? I've heard that if you try drawing with your opposite hand, it gets you to focus on the right side of your brain more, thus your completed drawing turns out better. Actually, I would think this would work, because you spend more time on your drawing. I believe ambidexterity would also help me exeed in piano playing and type on the keyboard faster.

So, the last few months, i've been practicing left hand writing. It was difficult at first, but I slowly got the move. My handwriting still isn't quite as good, and i write much slower. But i continue to practice, and i'm starting to get used to doing other things with my left hand. I even moved my mouse to the left side of my computer (and I've cleared out all my junk piled there). I started painting my first left hand painting, and it actually turned out pretty good for a first try. At least my mom liked it. I wouldn't say it's exactly better than my right hand paintings, but hey, ive been using my right hand forever. But if i keep trying, i will see the magic!

Right now, I'm around a 30:70, comparing my left hand to my right.
Sounds like a good idea aspie44.8 and I wish you goody good good luck in your work!

Tomas

here is my first left hand painting.

Compare with this:
I initially read the subject line as "I'm working on becoming anorexic". Big Grin Didn't realize my mistake until I actually clicked on it!

I like your paintings; watercolor, right? That rabbit's quite impressive for a first try with your non-dominant hand.
Big Grin no, i'd never try loosing weight unless a doctor or family member advised me to.

I also did the rabbit by scratch, while I copied the ram from a photo (but not the background). I spent over 2 hours on the rabbit, but only 40 minutes on the ram. My rabbit painting has more creativity behind it, but my ram is more realistic.

I've also done this, I have been writing with my non-dominant hand for about 21/2 years. I realized that once I learned to write with my ND hand, I could automatically draw just as good with both hands. I can draw anything with my ND hand as my dominant hand. I have always been fascinated with handedness. I was surprised that drawing came so easily, and automatically once I became more adept at the writing, it was like my ND hand, in drawing, had made up for 16 years of limited usage, in about 2 weeks.
I can use both hands efficiently. My left being dominant.

It's a useful skill to have, definitely.

... Although. I still have to work on my ND hand more. In percentage, or ratio, whatever, I'd be 50:90. *shrugs*

Handedness and dominant frontal lobe are interesting to read about. I especially love looking up leftie facts. XD
