Hi, I'm obviously new (blah blah, formalities, yadda yadda) and I love this site. It's about time I found somewhere that didn't have oversimplifying, dualistic, and altogether ignorant views and information about the Horrific Epidemic that is Autism.
I REALLY want to speak out and bring attention to the fact that holy crap, yes! People with a different arrangement of neurons CAN function in society! This is something that'll be really HARD to enlighten all of society as once on, so I'd like to start small. But I don't want to just write a letter or an e-mail to the news - I want to land an interview, if at all possible. Letters are nice, but local television still demands a bit more attention than Youtube. And if I can have even a small metro area watching me complain, that might turn the heads of a few hundred people, and... well. Knowledge can be contagious. Whatever social phobia I have is more than worth shoving aside.
So, does anyone have any ideas on how I can actually get this done? All of the news in my area (around Kansas City) has some "Call For Action" thing, but that's mainly to call out scam artists, sleazy landlords-- you know, the typical mass media drivel that's easy to do and boosts viewers' self-esteem. Should I just relay a letter to them and hope for the best, or are there other sensible actions I can take to get noticed?
