i made sure my mom didn't watch the show, but i taped it for anyone that wants to watch the horror show.  we instead watched a baseball game and had some great times.  autism speaks is too hostile and just digusting, i didn't want things like my name being on some registry because of this show and my life being ruined.

sounds like we didn't miss much.
It's a shame I can't get the time I wasted on that show back. Rolleyes

And I'm glad that my family isn't anything like the ones on the show.
What irritated me the most was that the so-called mother who would easily kill herself and her autistic daughter was on that show. The only mention of HFA was from that pediatritian with a high-functioning son who she claims is that way because of early intervention.

Would this be the "IAN" registry?  I heard about that on NPR this morning.  Creepy!

yes.  and my response...avoid!

I haven't got a confirmation email, in any folders. Stupid site.
If/when I get it, I will be posting there.
I forgot to watch on purpose.  I don't think I would bother with the Oprah board.  I just can't handle the curebie parents who tell me that "well, you ONLY have Asperger's.  You are doing ok."

I was talking about all this genetic research leading to prenatal testing to my mother-in-law today, she said it just came down to money.  People just think it is too expensive to have to care for a child who is not "normal".  And she blames people in wheelchairs for causing a fuss about disability rights and costing the government and businesses money to build ramps and install elevators.  Do physically disabled people care about other disabled people or are people with Asperger's the only ones concerned about people with autism being wiped off the face of the earth?
I've been to Oprah's web site. I feel so inspired! Anything is possible in America! Unfortunately I live in Australia.

I think the best ever Oprah episode was the two-legged dog who could jump about in the snow. I felt inspired by that. Anything is possible people!

I posted. Probably a waste of time. I'm hoping my message is so startling in it's originality that it will be noticed among the other 1600 odd other postings.
I think Penn and Teller may be too idiosyncratic in their opinions to enable one to predict how they would treat the curebies versus aspies debate. They do seem to love to heap ridicule on groups of people that they see as being flakey or extreme. I know that there are many ignoramuses who think we are extreme in our opinions.
Alot of conspiration theories often come with the mercury theory
Maybe the mercury got into her brain and that's why she's thinking so strangely?
That vaccination stuff is total nonsense, I can't stand it when people go on about it all the time!
I had another look at the Oprah board and I don't think I'll post there again. No one is really listening to me on there, unfortunately. It is, to quote The Best Page In The Universe, "like being bukakked with stupid".

It's becaus

things like this make me so grateful i was diganoised in the 80's, back when autism was "rare".  autism runs in my family (don't know of any other diagoisis though).  i bet things would have been 10 times worse if autism speaks was mainstream in the 90's, as i was just the bright kid that got bullied for no reason.  groups like those just want to increase ingorance and take autism defintions back to the 50's, when autism digaiosis was very narrow, but want to envoke it on a wide specturm of people.

oh yeah, i think many americans are ignorant and don't care to read anymore...i think igorance strikes more nt's than autistics, since i see alot less autistics fall for stupid media ploys (myself inculded) and do their homework.  less of us will be likely to fall for the oprah brainwash than nt's, which i think could be a movtivation by the curebies to get rid of us, since we refuse to be brainwashed.

btw, the mecury theory is dead.
I already pointed out on another thread, this might be a good opportunity for a counter-offensive.

I know that I'm not the only Aspie video producer here on the boards. Maybe it's possible to produce a decent documentary meant for TV broadcast and use that as a bit of a postcard for the people with Asperger's. Let parents with an AS child talk about his or her qualities, kill off the mercury theory once and for all by providing proof (as the real reason for the statistics is that, simply said, the autism diagnosis is broader today and this means diagnosis falls earlier), and let adult Aspies talk about their qualities and what we have already provided the "NT society" in the fields of science, technology, art, literature and whatnot. Have the viewers ever considered that, without Aspies, they wouldn't have a computer to type comments on, no TV to watch, actually, no electricity at all?

If anyone is interested in helping me setting up the production, let me know!

Maybe we all ought to get Yahoo accounts, just so we'll be prepared to do things anonymously if we're still "in the closet", so to speak. I'm surprised some of you don't have anonymous e-mail accounts yet, really. I've probably had something like ten Yahoo accounts over the years, maybe more.

I have the feeling I really don't need one. I've got a good junk filter that makes sure all the trash in my inbox gets dumped and if people seem to trace me on my e-mail address... so what? I'm not ashamed of who I am and not for what I'm posting on message boards. So I feel I don't really need the anonymity.
