looks like autism speaks will be infecting orpah soon (tomorrow or thursday, i turned that sucker so fast i didn't care to find out). it's probably more stories of how we should murder our kids and hurry to get rid of autistics altogether. ick.
Acccording to her site, the show airs on Thursday.
I'm plan on watching although I'm sure it will be the usual.
in what little of the preview i saw before turning it quickly away, it looked to be the wrights touted grandson, which means chelation and biomed quackery are gaunteed to be a part of the show. and if this is anything like the larry king live show, it will be terrible.
and i'm sick of autism being talked about as childhood cancer. now those kids with cancer are suffering and hope for cures.
tired of a few stories of extremist curebies (as in autism speaks parents) trying to represent every family with autistics in it (despair, thoughts of murder, etc.). i hope it's balanced (probably not). can someone post a review before 3 pm if possible so to know if i should watch the show or not?
i hear the show airs earlier than 3 pm et in alot of areas. i suggest everyone in the us break out their tv week and find out when ophrah comes on in their area. i think it comes on in the morning in chicago, so we may see a review of the show by noontime.
It's on Thursday.....I checked today, but it was one of those typical shows on accident survivors and 9/11 soldiers and stuff, not something scareh and ominous....
Why can't she just stick with inbred rednecks fighting over who gets the biggest share of the profits off the family meth lab? Maybe they can throw some chairs around and boost the ratings.</sarcasm>
Seeing as I am from the same state she is, that statement better be directed to just her because I am not inbred nor am I a redneck.
Also, I am planning on watching this episode to see, that in hopes, some brave person with autism from the audience does throw a chair.
Probably going to be another "here's timmy, timmy suffers from the crippling disease known as Autism, since he is unable to speak, we'll speak for him, timmy says 'I want to be cured, I want to be normal, I hate what I am', thank you timmy, notice how he just sits there, since he appears completely braindead, let's all assume he is and try to help him accomplish his dreams of being a varsity quarterback, dating the head cheerleader, then going on to law school to become a successful lawer, according to his parents, that's exactly what timmy wants for himself, and Autism Speaks is trying to make it happen".
Exactly what I was thinking

No offense intended. I've lived in several southern states, and realize not everyone in the south is a redneck. The statement was directed toward just Oprah and her ilk, more specifically toward the depths those types of shows will sink to to attract an audience. I was in a grouchy mood early this morning when I posted that, and a family fighting over meth lab profits was the first example to come to mind.
Oh, it's ok ^^. I'm not exactly happy about this show either.
I smell an opportunity (and I'm usually a diehard pessimist). The difference between this and other cure autism campaigns is Oprah has a
message board, which we can join en masse and offer our perspective on the issue, and answer viewers' questions. Technically not illegal, and the worst case scenario is we get the whole thread deleted, and gain nothing and lose nothing (to minimize that risk we just have to follow the
rules). The best time to start would be 4:00 EDT tomorrow since the first airing of the show will be ending. So what do you think? Am I insane, or is it worth a try?
what, something along the lines of,"I am an Autistic, and i can speak for myself."?
gee,and watch the patronisation, belittlement and abuse come rolling in...
I think it's worth a shot... but we've got to have more than 2 people chipping in.
Plus... this show's on AUTISM, which in the minds of most media means "Kanner" autism. No one ever had the guts to put up a show on Asperger's or other high functioning forms of ASD and broadcast it. More over since there's a huge community of geeks online who don't want themselves portrayed badly (and most Aspies are afraid of cameras anyway). It COULD be an idea to make a decent documentary of the Aspie way of living by ourselves, since I know there are enough filmmakers with AS around.

GREAT idea!
Hell, why not? Links, anyone?
Bummer, I won't be able to watch it completely because it begins at 3PM CST and I get home at 3:30PM CST on average =(.
Well, I can say that I only watched 15 minutes of the show, and then just turned the TV off. It was fairly uninteresting to me.
We should respond, so far there's 2 of us who have done so on that board. We really need more people to do the same thing.
