I'm an aspie and one of my greatest escapes is in the world of gaming. I don't like the soical/online stuff but I love long single player action and RPGs with good story lines. I can get so immersed in them, its the closest thing there is to becoming another person. Aspies are ussually good at them since many games involve recognizing patterns and logic, something we tend to be good at.

Many  say that they encourage violence but I think just the opposite. It's a great way to channel my aggressive impulses. It helps me to deal with things better.

Do any other aspies feel the way I do? If I dodn't have books and games I don't know what I'd do!!

In case you were wondering my favorite game ever is Metal Gear Solid for the original playstation.
I totally agree they don't encourage violence they release it. Personally I use karate as I need to get physical to release my anger and frustration.

I prefer the puzzle games than the fighting ones.
I'm a MMORPG fan myself, much easier to deal with people that way.
I play WoW & CoX (City of Heroes/Villains).
I love shootem ups as its a way of venting the anger and all that, and I am fond of the survival horror genre too, and the stealth em up.

Have you played F.E.A.R. ?

It doesn't have a great plot or anything but it can be quite creepy and atmospheric, also the visual feel of the game is superb.  The gunfights are delectable.

Another overlooked gem (which is kinda survival horror but not completely) is Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.  Should be available for around 20 U.S. dollars, if you see in local game store, get this for the PC.  You won't regret it.

As a kid I used to heavily game for hours and hours a day and now I've let go a bit however during the summer I love to game. I think its great because you are entering a different world where you control the character and his.her actions and its just a fun experience.
I lived video games as a child. These days I'm more interested in "historical" action games on the PC, be they FPS or flight sim.  On the consoles I'm into good driving sims (GT4, no NFS please) and the more open ended RPGs (Bully, Okami, Godfather) even though I find keybard and mouse miles more intuitive for controlling a person or car than the gamepad. For driving games I use the Logitech DFPro wheel because for me it's virtual seat time rather than a game, and likewise even my very arcade-ish flight games I use a good joystick with separate throttle stick (Thrustmaster TopGun series). These days it's all about the control surfaces.

RPGs, FPS and such I mostly like for the strategy and tactics (Love me some FFT on the PSX) while sims I'm in for the coordination and physics training. I used to be really into RTS, but havn't played any that really appealed to me since Emperor: Battle for Dune back around the turn of the century.

i agree fully, i found out in a book i read that the only reason why there is all of these studies that say that they encourage this behavior is because that they have never done a single study to see if they help and since they are looking for negative results they get negative results but in reality video games only have the violence effect on about 1 or 3 out of every 30 kids
I get bored with video games where you have to follow someone else's storyline but I love Zoo Tycoon 2 in freeform.  When I'm not happy, I let the animals out of their exibits and let them chase the people, put the people in the animal exibits, knock them off bridges or make a people exibit and open the zoo for the animals.
lol thats funny but im worried about what that says about me as a person

I mean thats funny to me but im worried about what taking pleasure from the idea of people in cages as exhibits and being attacked by loose animals and being pushed off of a bridge

Thanks to video game emulation, I can once again enjoy my old favorites.

Brother was just looking around for some old Apple IIe games/software we put in a box, ages ago... apparently there is an up-and-coming collector's market for old software (with the original box artwork/manual still intact.)  We also have an unopened (sealed!) box of Dow Jones and the Fast Lane... one of the first games ever put on CD-ROM.  Apparently he checked E-bay and that one is going for a decent selling price...

Hang on to your old games, folks!  You never know if they will accrue some value, somewhere down the line...

I have;

First Edition Total Annihilation, in the original box, manual and cases in perfect condition.
Freelancer in original cases, incl. manual and all paperwork
Civilisation for the Amiga, in original packaging.

The Amiga has quite a bit of a following, I imagine that one would actually be worth something...

On a related note, Stanley Kubrick (famous director) was known to collect obsolete personal computers... heheheh
