Hi,

I just wanted to ask if there were any parents who were dealing with precocious puberty or early onset of puberty in their Asperger's child.

If so what measures did you take?

My son is 6 1/2.

Thanks in advance,

Paula
I'm currently 16 and think I can speak here even though I am not a parent. I don't think I had an ealy puberty, might it be that your son is aggressive? That's apparently a big problem in that age, I was however not aggressive so I can't help you tere.

Yes, he gets aggressive but he's also quite goofy so we're lucky that waySmile
Unfortunately he is showing biological signs of early onset such as facial acne etc.

Love the art on your post.

Thanks,

Paula

Thanx!

Some people at this forum and chatroom says it is only creepy.
If it's because of his personality, it's not necessarily early puberty.

If it's physical, it should be obvious.

I mainly asked because I read on a medical site that people with ASD's are many times more likely to get an early onset of puberty as opposed to NT's. My 6 1/2 yo is currently the same size as an 11 yo and has developed facial acne.

My main concern here is that:

1) He's too young and
2) If this is what I think it could be then it could effect his adult height.

Other than that he's fine and well on track to become the world's first spacerangerSmile

Weird. I always heard the opposite-- that autistic people are likely to look much younger than their actual ages.

Have you seen a pediatrician about this? If your son's development is really abnormally early, there are hormonal treatments he could get that would keep him from becoming pubescent too soon, I think.

Hi, Paula--

Get him to the doctor and have him evaluated.  There are several medical treatments for precocious puberty.

There are reasons to postpone puberty and a doctor would be able to explain better than I can.  This is a condition with serious side effects.

That said, do your research on the treatments the docs decide to give him, as they will have side effects like any drugs, so you can keep an eye on him and help him with the side effects.

Good luck, Jaye

Kids can go through very early puberty on occasion so it would be best to get this boy checked by a doctor asap.
i went thru puberty at the age of 6/7, however a teacher i know said exactly waht paula louise sed
