Ive often wondered if there are affirmative action groups and/or programs for people on the Spectrum. Even if they arent specifically for people with AS/HFA-the reason I ask this is Ive been unemployed for 8 years now and Im starting to get a little desperate. I am unconvinced I can get hired because of lack of (work)experience and lack of "connections"(social networking to convince someone to hire me). Is there anyone else here[Im only speaking for americans since I live in the US] who is or has faced this and is there something I can do about it? I honestly think affirmative action really might be the best way to go when it comes to getting my foot in the door...
Hmmm, I'm rather suprised that there are 38 views so far but no replies. SURELY there are people here who live in the United States and are also employed. Maybe I should just try to emmigrate to canada so I can get employed.Sad
If you live in Southern Ontario, Canada you can go to LEADS
There's obviously alot of problems related to keeping jobs among aspies which I read in this forum.

"and lack of "connections"(social networking to convince someone to hire me). "

There I see another reason to try to get friends.
Federal "affirmative action" doesn't do much for anyone in George Bush's America.

What state do you live in? Most programs that might help with employment are state or local programs.
I always think it's funny when someone gets anxious when not enough people respond to them right away.
Well, I got NO responses to the 1st post in this thread whatsoever. It wasnt until I added an additional message that the replies started pouring in.BTW I live in Oregon, but am from Washington.

Why would you find someone elses emotional distress funny?

Ziyaret, what is your field of work?

It's not emotional distress that I find funny, it's impatience, especially on an internet forum designed for people on the Autistic spectrum, people that aren't exactly known for their quick and witty responses.
