I'm fine without friends as long as people don't bother me. I don't mind friends, but I just never really have too many. My parents keep bugging me to hang out with someone over spring break though. It's really awkward. I have friends, but I don't know how to ask. Or what people would even do together. I haven't hung out with anyone since Kindergarden.
Trust me, I'm just about as clueless as you are. Pretty much, all I do to hang out with people outside of school is go to their house. Occasionally me and the only friend I can visit decide to go out on walks to the nearby Walmart or something.
I find it helps to come up with a simple, concrete activity and limit it to a certain length of time. That way if the conversation gets difficult you can concentrate on the activity instead of the social aspect.

"I'd really like to go see this movie. Would you like to come with me? I have to go home right after the movie though; my parents are strict about curfew." or, "I need to go shopping and get myself a <insert clothing article>. Would you like to come shopping with me Saturday morning? Then we can go for lunch at <insert nearby restaurant>. I have to get home by 2:00 though; I have family coming over."

It helps if you really do want to do whatever it is you're inviting the person to do with you. If your parents are anything like mine were, they'll be so thrilled that you're going out to do something with a friend that they'll give you whatever cash you need to do it.
Friend are evil people who constantly want to get to your home and give you gifts you don't want.

Luckily I haven't had many friends, so I guess I really don't know!

geez i know what you mean, my parents always want me to try and make more friends. and i already have 4, i mean how many people do they think i need?!

most of my friends either play Runescape as well, are Gamers,or...i dont know where im going with this,to be honest.

a good percentage of my existing friends are the 'nerd' group from my last school-the Bookworms, the coders, the gamers, the eggheads(i fall into 3 of those groups-can you guess which ones, cybercookie for those who do!)
the others are just people it was useful to be friends with.
the Prefects
the Head-Boy
the Teachers
the Librarians(although those count as bookworms.)
the 'Beefy' kids(most of my friends in this group went into the school rugby team, and three of them are on the county team) who are actually ok.after all,in exchange for help in school work,i got some muscle to defend me if i was attacked.
two of those became prefects.

i just spent my time in the library or the ICT room, reading or browsing.
I agree with Solana.  Though with close friends, sometimes it's fine to just sit around.  It is helpful to find out what kinds of things your friend/date is interested in.  Off the top of my head, here are some of the things I've done with friends:
