There have also been demonstrations, including a recent march in New York, where 10,000 people turned out to raise money for research.

hmm,

Does this imply  the march was the protest?

Hee.  This is great.  The next time someone writes about the protest, using this article as a source, they'll probably say that 10,000 autistic activists were marching.  Now that's leverage for you.

I hear than the Canadian, NT dominated autism society claims that there is not an organization called "Autistic Liberation Front." I hope they are wrong. I would love to see a coalition of our groups and would encourage my support groups to join if I know more about it.

Can anyone direct me to a website or person with more info on this organization, assuming it exists?

OK, tell me more about the autism assembly, please. I have wanted to see a coalition of support groups, ANI etc for a long time.

Thanks for the link!  It sounds like a step in the right direction.

Are we "the Autistic Liberation Front?"

Something about the original Telegraph piece doesn't quite ring true. It looks as though a journalist has been sniffing around in here and cooked up this "Front" to meet a story-telling need, cos the only references I can find to an "Autistic Liberation Front" in Google are references to the Telegraph article....  Notice that none of the interviewees in the original article ever refer to any "Front"? - their comments are merely put into this context by the writers....

Where can we see the "clenched fist" symbol they refer to? Where do we buy the T-shirts etc?

:?

Amy,

shall I write to Vernon Beauchamp at NAS and ask  him about the origin of the quotes from him, who he thought he was referring to, and to which journalists he spoke about us?

If I write nicely it could open up a useful dialogue with NAS, who don't seem to be against us, and may even be for us, which could help repell  the kind of "mugs and T-shirts -barmy demonstrators" stories we've seen this last month.

I'll give it a go Amy
