Yeah I have the same frustration. I try avoid meetings that I don't organise as otherwise I just get annoyed with all the babble. If it was relevant or important what people were saying I wouldn't mind but usually it's irrelevant bollocks.
When I'm arranging meetings I always make sure I draw up an agenda stating what is to be discussed and what information is required for the meeting.
Forutnatley meeting rooms are in high demand at my workplace so you can't really go over the time you have the room booked for so I always make sure I book the minimum amount of time I think we need to get through the agenda items.
I have also heard of copanies removing chairs from meeting rooms to help make meetings shorter never been able to convince senior management to introduce it into my workplace though.
When I have a question to ask or a statement to make, I just say it. Half the time, as soon as I get my turn to speak, my mind goes blank and I can't get the words out... but when I don't go blank, I say my piece and then I'm done.
I'm like that too in situations like this, people just babble on and on, and by the time I get a chance to say something, I can't seem to say it (I forget or can't seem to get the words out). And yes, when I do add something to a meeting, I usually keep my sentences short, not babble on like they do.

Hmm, I'm so surprised when anybody does listen to what I have to say that I tend to stumble over my words. But, I am slowly improving at being able to speak in meetings. I also find it really annoying when some people "hog" the discussion with boring topics but if a meeting is well run, this kind of thing is kept to a minimum so everybody gets to have their say if they wish.
I do not go to meetings anymore, as I get agitated with all the babble and no-one gives a straight answer and I get upset and yell at people...
Solana, your description is wonderful. Imagine, if you will, my Aspie boyfriend is head of the contentious math department at the college where he teaches. So he has to manage, engage in, guide, limit, allow and endure the "talk and talk and talk."
I told him, "At least it's the math department. Be thankful it's not English."
He's actually pretty good at it. He recognizes the need for social bonding/interaction and allots time for it.

Hmmm. So... its a verbal version of butt sniffing and other ritualistic pack behavior?
Eww! Sniffing bums - no thank you very much!
I swear a huge number of my team has traits of asperger's, they all talk over each other, go over the same thing again and again and again, like going round in circles. I just get bored and want to have a fag break. I don't often get a word in edge ways, if I do I get left until the very last and can't say what I need to. Thankfully I have not had to be at a team meeting for some months due to my sickness.
My ignorant deputy did advise me that what I was doing wrong was talking to a co-worker one to one about ideas/issues and what I should do is discuss it in the team meeting (he knows I have HFA!), nice advice.
I just think this what the issue this is what we should do end of, why go on and on about the same bloody thing everytime.
Yep I hate team meetings, can be funny when the deputy pulls a strop for everyone talking over him, because he talks at people and no one can get a word in (he also imposes his routines on everyone, has total lack of empathy, spends a long time on one task thus appearing lazy, him he very blunt and insulting.... his son has asperger's).
After about half an hour, I start to fall asleep. It doesn't get noticed much as there are others who get sleepy too. This is unless there are lots of people talking at once and then I soon develop a sensory overload and find it almost impossible to absorb much of the information.
You said it Solana. It sounds like the people in your work area need to pull it together and get on with the meeting as it was meant to be. It's a meeting, not a lunching after all.
Oh yes, meetings!
We are supposed to have one after work monthly. It's then I realise how Normies could talk under wet cement if they had to. Our meetings always run over time and we usually have to re-schedule points for discussion later, in the next meeting, when in reality there would have been plenty of time if people would just put their egos in a box for a while, engage their brains and LISTEN!
It seems that only myself and one or two others ever make any intelligent contribution to the discussion in hand, while others talk, socialise, or do whatever it is that NTs do. Glen, the colleague I hated, but who thankfully has since left, used to sketch dirty pictures in his notepad instead of taking notes, and got offended that I didn't simper at them like the other female staff. I mean, they weren't funny, they were offensive and did nothing to promote the discussion we were all supposed to be having.

Isn't what he was doing illegal? I thought it would come under discrimination and harassment to display objectionable pictures in the workplace.

You can see why I'm glad he's gone. The man was an immature bore.

I don't know. I guess people don't keep track or they just want to address what the person said.
Kornik, I think your ideas are okay up to a point and if they suit you that's good. But I personally wouldn't want to encourage other people to waffle on and on if their ideas are really boring.
Solana hasn't been here in 2 months.
Why does everyone keep addressing her?
So what if she hasn't been on in two months. It's a topic of interest to the poeple who replied at least, isn't it? Have a little problem with everyone replying or something?

The other employees probably didn't miss him either. What a pervert. Lol.
