I met up with a therapist in college today, I havn't had any luck with councellors and thankfully own of my teachers got me in to see her friend who is a therapist.

We spent about one and a half hours talking and I worked out alot from it. She's looking into AS and if I may have it, I'm seeing her again next week.

Just letting you know, let us know of your experiences and or expectations of getting or having a therapist.

Oopsy, hit the wrong button. Sorry.  I think my brain was still reeling from having to reread the part mentioning "CBT".  I took it to mean  something else Big Grin
CBT can also mean "computer based training"

So if you weren't referring to "Computer Based Training", what does CBT mean in this context?

... ignore typical anxiety and depression test results as they will be misleading for someone like me."

... Therapists tend to approach everyone from an NT bias.

... CBT meant what I've heard it to (also) mean, you are a naughty little thing.

I agree with all of youse.

Therapy has been a complete waste of time and money for me, and I no longer see a point in getting it...

Not going to ask for the meaning of CBT as referred to above...(chuckle here). There are a lot of places to go with the meaning of CBT...!!!

I’ll refer to: Cognitive Brain Therapy -- As in sitting in a therapist’s office.

Again, IMO, All are correct above. For me it depends on what period in my life we speak to. I’ve sat-in with the NT slant on the subject earlier in life, spent a lot of $$$, and all I got were pills for depression.  Phittt..., Gave me the same attitude Batman55 has, I’ve been there once...

When I finally found a therapist that understood the “it” in me (I still prefer not to use labels -- call it: AS/HFA/A**hole if you need a label). CBT was the best thing that happened over anything I've tried prior. I needed to contribute too...

So Noetic is very accurate in suggesting that CBT works well for  “it”.

Two of my final sessions with understanding therapists – had one saying: "Now that you have it all figured out, write me a book".  Another: “Well... you got it figured out... So what are you going to do about it?”

(Hmmm.... perhaps write a book?)

Moreover, I walked away with an understanding for "it".  And work positively to understand it more, as well as educate, best I can, those still stuck with the NT slant...

Moral: Find the right, ah..emmm, CBT. Not the naughty one... !!! (okay... I’ve got to know... send me a PM Max...(damn curiousity)).

Got to laugh now... and go outside for a break, take some pictures of our magnificent Spring. A snapshot of the red Dogwood down the street I think.

Respectful regards, Beammeup

In this context we are dealing with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Smile

Hah!  Perhaps a new definition for CBT:  Cognitive-Blunder-Thinking.

The CBT I had above...

Respectfully, Thanks for clarifying this... So, can I say: CBT also helps CBT if your a CBT (come-on Max, let me know....). Smile

Respectful regards,  Beammeup

Good for you. Just provided you can realise that we are not all at this stage of enlightenment just yet. We have to find our solutions in our own time and maybe people such as Batman55 and me are still struggling to understand how we think and not quite ready for any CBT.

Yeah, that's one of the things I've been trying to say.  Thanks for chiming in on that.

I feel fortunate that at 25 years old I've been able to "figure out Asperger's by myself"... in hindsight, it is clear I would have gone a lifetime without anyone even suggesting it once.

And it quite frankly seems my last therapist was intentionally "hiding" the Asperger's possibility from me.  I can be paranoid, but sometimes, my suspicions have been correct.

Mind you specialists aren't automatically *right*...

Hah!

The *right* ones are indeed rare....

I so much prefer the *right* specialists here posting to AFF and WP...

Us! As in everyone!  We're all specialists!

Though... this does not mean that I'd cancel, or not make an appointment with a CBT... if needed.

There was a time in my journey that I needed to make those appointments, and while keeping in mind that it is a two-way effort. I needed to also humble my "specialist"-side and contribute too.

Regards, Beammeup....
