Overall it was interesting, though there was some occasional mentioning of a cure (the 19-year-old said he wished he was a normal person). The kid with Asperger's didn't talk about cures (I don't think), but he wasn't a very good comedian.

I agree... it was interesting. At least it wasn't another "The HORRORS of Autism" show... again...
In all I think they showed the three boys for who they are- humans rather than freaks. Which was at least refreshing. And I did love the comedians jokes... sort of. I totally respected his parents for letting him get so involved in his obsession though. The artist's dad seemed really gruff... like he was trying to make him make eye contact (something I saw a lot of on the show) which just seems kinda wrong for the classic autistics at least... and he was trying to keep his son from having tantrums... which the dad said were uncontrollable, but then he kept talking to him about self-control... ? I also loved that the non-verbal kids' birthday party went well and that the kids seemed open to him (how much of that was MTV I can only guess...) The producer's links on MTV's website was pretty insightful as well as he/she talked a lot about the misconceptions of autism and how the boys impacted her thoughts about autism.

That's okay, Larry King's going to have an all-curebie, all-dehumanization, all-demonization show tonight.

I liked the episode, finally a program that shows autism in a positive light! Shows that autistics have strengths that they can contribute to society.
I commend MTV for their work on this episode!
