this mother is thinking that her daughter will not be able to take care of a child if she has one. The mother is thinking "My god, I will have to take care of my grandchildren" The mother is thinking "I don't want to" THe mother is being and thinking in an incredibly selfish way.
Sterilisation of people that NT society considers "useless" has a long and ignoble history. Perhaps it is fear, perhaps it is hate. I don't know.
But who has educated this woman, this mother? Which mental health professional has told her that her daughter is an idiot? That her daughter will never live as others live? Who has lied to her?
Even in Yankiland where at least there is more awareness than in other countries this is going on. What hope for our people until we take control of our own destiny?
This is just sick! If the child is high-functioning autistic, there's no reason that without the proper therapies that she shouldn't be able to live on her own and even raise a child. My parents were told a similar thing that I wouldn't be able to live outside of an institution, but they had the sense not to believe what was told 28 years ago. I'm doing fine, except I have no firm diagnosis of either high-functioning autisim or Asperger's and from what I've researched, my non-professional opinion is that AS is very likely. I've always had problems socially, and when I was mainstreamed in th 3rd grade, I was the one that the whole school picked on.
My academic performance was always very high, and because of that, nobody paid attention to the social difficulties, except I had speech therapy until my freshman year of high school. In college, things were often a struggle because of severe testing anxiety, and it took 4 years to get an AA, and I couldn't get through for a BA. Because I did so well in school up until transfering to CSULB, I never thought I would qualify for the disabled student services program.
Anyway, I feel that what this mother is doing is abusive, just because her daughter has a disability doesn't mean that she can't take care of a child. How selfish! I seriously doubt any doctor would agree to this mutulation because this is just wrong and highly unethical. If she's in America, this could be a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act, if that law also protects disabled people from being sterilized against their will.
I'm sorry but in this case some people should just be sent in front of a firing squad. What those women are doing to their daughters is thoroughly "insane" by any methods to control their daughter's bodies. Gee this reminds me of circumcision debates too... wierd how especially some NTs can end up so fanatic to the point of stupidity.
My question, though:
What if the girl *wants* it? I've met many other Aspies of all ages who have already decided that they're not going to have kids, and that they would like to get rid of unnecessary organs.
And the parents are often reluctant to discuss that their kids are making such decisions, especially so young.
Now, while this probably isn't the case and the woman is just a moron, it *may* be the case.
I had a disturbing experience in an autism support chatroom yesterday. An NT parent came to the room to ask for some advice about her autistic daughter. The daughter was 10 years old, had high functioning autism, and had good language skills. The mother was asking how she could get a hysterectomy for her daughter! She said that as "she will never have kids anyway, it makes sense to just get rid of it". The other people in the room, and myself were horrified by the womans attitude, we tried to explain to her that her daughter is so young, and could still develop emotionally, and intellectually, that it would be inhuman to take away her rights, and mutilate her in that fashion. I told her outright that I was very disturbed with her attitude. She replied "theres nothing wrong with my attitude", and try as we might to get across to her that is was unnecessary and wrong to even consider such action, she was dismissive of us. I would sincerely hope that (as she was in the US), that she would not be able to find a surgeon who would do such a thing. It highlights to me the importance of getting our message across to society that we are not "broken" or "damaged" items that need altering or fixing by them.
That poor girl, seems the mother is denying her the right to have a family of her own someday, and to be able to find her own special way, and happiness in this already messed up world/society we live in today. I too was diagnosed as high functioning autistic/borderline, and I would find it difficult to forgive my own mother if she had tried to have done the same thing to me when I was this girl's age.
As I was saying, what if the kid wanted it? A *lot* of our people are often involved in rape situations, etc. A lot of us are also deeply religious and against abortion. I want to share something from my own experience. I am having a LOT of trouble saving up money to get a vasectomy for myself, and my parents don't have any money to contribute. If the kid did NOT want to have a hysterectomy, then the mom was horrible. If she DID, in fact, want to get fixed, then her mom was doing the right thing.
I donno, I told my mom when I was little that I never wanted to have kids and she told me I would change my mind, but I haven't. (and now I'm the age she was when she had me, so...)
I couldn't imagine myself having kids when I was 10 years old, but I changed my mind about it later.
Anyway, that's not the point. No one would be allowed to sterilize a "normal" 10-year-old, whether or not she agreed to it. The only reason it's being considered here is because this child's parents see her as "defective." That attitude has to be changed.

I don't see why not. I mean, you can get cosmetic surgery for your kid when they're that age.
Who's to say they couldn't, though? That's why it has to go through the parents, for the reasons you cited, because the medical companies won't *listen* to a child about it.
24, but I don't know how that's an issue.
So...they *would* listen to a 10-year-old who wanted to have cosmetic surgery? They really don't, yet it's legal to do so.
Personally, all being "female" has gotten me is trouble. But I think that person is horrible. I'm never having kids; if I did anyways, I would adopt one. (I hate people touching me)
On the other hand, the girl could in Australia could barely communicate herself, so she could not say what she meant.
The other girl should be asked if she can communicate well. At least, they could wait until she's 16-17. There's a small chance she'll actually get a boyfriend.

And? Having a boyfriend doesn't mean she'll want kids any more. Sure didn't for me.
Of cause not! But her mother sees her daughter as an asexual person. She fears becoming mother to her own grandchild or getting an autistic grandchild.
I've tried finding Aspie women or the few women I can get who doesn't want kids, but it seems to be an universal thing for most women to have kids no matter what.
