i would suggest boycotting all bands in the psa until further notice in addition to the letter writing.

boycott: the who, areosmith, led zepplin, motely crue, kiss, judas priest, twisted sister, and ronnie james dio.  don't buy any more cd's or merchendise from these bands until they pull out from can support.  i can see them forming a music against autism campaign.  how sick.

I'm against CAN just as much as anybody else, if not more, but there's some damn good bands there.  Led Zeppelin's one of my favorite bands, I'm not going to stop listening to that just for this.  I understand your reasoning, but think about it, what's a boycott of these bands really going to accomplish aside from having to listen to other music?  If everyone on this forum said that they weren't going to buy or listen to any of these bands for supporting CAN, the bands will just pass us off as people that simply don't like their music.

I doubt these bands really gave this much thought, it most likely came down to the manager saying "here''s a charity gig that will score us points with people by making us look compassionate".

Boycotts don't really accomplish much unless the companies affected actually lose enough money that they notice.  If everybody on here boycotted all of these bands, they'd lose what, 1000 bucks? they wouldn't even notice that.

A more worthwhile solution would be to go to these band's websites and fan groups, join their forums, and explain why we're against this event, this would get the word out to a lot more people.

You know what? We should fight music with music! Why don't we hold a concert? We could get bands who think that aspburgers isn't a sickness and we could donate the money for something good!  A benifet concert! That is what we need!
If there's any chance of having a concert in the New England area, I run a small stage lighting company, I wouldn't mind doing a free gig if I knew it would help to make a difference.

True, it would be better just to write a letter/email.

I was nervous reading those band names, hoping that none of my favourites would be up there. Thankfully they aren't, but in the future-

Wow...Zep...that'a bad. I love their stuff, personaly I think these bands, not unlike the thousands of parents out there have been mislead by higher powers, record companies, CAN, Autism Speaks etc, and are as ignorant to the real issue at stake here as a lot of others.
Music and celebrities are used in the most cold media campagnes, remember Kurt Cobain in that Doc Martins add that got pulled? That picture made me cry, they were using his death to sell shoes, how low can one go, all for money of course.
I think these bands are simply machines beig used to promote something that they themselves might not agree with, but it all comes down to money, after all it's one thing for some gimp from CAN to speak to the people, and another for someone with over 40 years on the stage under their belts, such as Zep, with millions of fans who will listen simply because it's Zep.

I hope you understood me....
Oh, and kudos to the guy who mentioned giving the money to Cancer research, my dad died from Cancer and their research is saving lives, not breaking them.

Someone might have to wait until April 1st to see the actual ads.  Then I would urge people to write to the celebrities management and picket/boycott concerts of people with a negative viewpoint of autism.

Until they start listening to us.

well here is my message to these rock stars LEAVE US ALONE WE DON'T WANT TO BE CURED!!!! GOT IT?!
