Damn, that kid's pretty hardcore.
lack of parental supervision
older kids leading him into trouble -- they were not punished too.  They should be.
Seems most of the 30+ people that commented on the article either blamed Tony Blair or wanted to give the kid a beating, thinking that to be the cure. Disgusting! Violence as a cure for violent behavior. Yeah, right...
Wow, what is it with aspies doing crime these days. It's as if doing things that are illegal such as killing is an aspie thing.
This sounds quite like myself. I started 'acting up' when I was in fourth grade, however the rampant drug and alcohol use/abuse started up a few years later. When I was 12 years old a couple of the things that I remember doing was :

A.) Using a sledge hammer to tear holes in the lawn of a lady who branded my KISS (the band) T-shirt and myself as Satanic.

B.) Shooting Bottle rockets a a family eating their Independance Day dinner.

C.) Running away from home and getting several states away befor I was caught on several occaisions. (The furthest I got was either the trip from Bismark, ND to Sheridan Wyoming via Billings Montana, or Bismark ND, to Savanna Illinois)

I would imagine that this kid is intensly sad, frustrated and angered by the fact that he is simultaneously much smarter than his 'peer group' on an intellectual level as well as completely baffled by the fluidity of the social minefield of bad/good, cool/uncool in much the same way as I was.

I also had 'freinds' who used me in much the same way his 'freinds' used him, and his probable desire to be accepted.

I have no Idea of what an ASBO might entail for this kid as I am not native to the UK, however one thing that he has in his favor is possible intervention due to his ASD diagnosis. --In the US, Aspergers Syndrome was completely unheard of in the late 70's/ early 80's when I was growing up.
