I saw the movie "Because of Winn-Dixie", yesterday and I found it to be a feel good movie. Opal is the main character and she makes a split-second adoption of a big dog she encounters in a grocery store.
There's a lot of other eccentric characters in the movie as well as a lot of animals.
Other movies that I file into this section is "Shooting Fish", "Fried Green Tomatoes at Whistle Stop Café", "Hugo & Josefin", "Local Hero".
Anyone else that likes these kind of movies?
"Notting Hill" made me feel good. I'm not normally into Romantic Comedy, but that's got a great cast of eccentric characters and actually made me laugh.
And "Finding Nemo" makes me feel quite good. And "Totoro" -- because NO really dark stuff happens in that movie, does it? And "Benny and Joon" especially near the end when Sam is swinging by the window on that painter's rig or whatever it is.
I also want to see Mozart and the whale as I've only just finished the book and want to see if the actors make me feel as good as the book did.
There's a book?
If you are interested in knowing more about the movie Hugo & Josefin; go to IMBD and type in the directors name - Kjell Grede...
sarahjoke! Regarding FGT; have you read the novel (I haven't) that it is based upon? Just come to think of that lake that was displaced by a flock of birds...
Another movie I think is called "Book of Stars", about two sisters, also has a tendency to melt my heart.
I also adore anything by Miyazaki, though I haven't seen Fireflies because it's so sad. I don't like weepy movies.
Yeah Miyazaki is cool. (Although GOTF isn't actually by Miyazaki but Takahata.)
Three movies that are good is "Housekeeping", "Little Voice" and "Funny Bones".
"Phantom of the Opera" is a feel-good movie for me. And anything Star Trek and LOTR.

I'm involved with Peter Jackson on the production of "The Hobbit."
I could cast you in a small role, if you would so desire...
LOL...joking about LOTR in such a way is blasphemy!
However, I would make a fabulous Dwarf...

Digby Tantam disagrees there. He has even highlighted the inability to "act" as a way to differentiate between AS and personality disorders etc. I wonder if any autistic actors have ever had words with him about that?

I've been called quite a good actor.
I bet you have excellent mimicry skills.
S'pose. Occasionally.
"What's eating Gilbert Grape"
Depp and DiCaprio as brothers?

What's eating Gilbert Grape is a great movie! The only thing that stops me from going out and buying it is that I don't really like... whats-her-face... Damn! I can usually remember that girl's name. You know -- the girl with the sort of spiky brown hair? Bet I'm going to remember the moment I make this post!!!
I have more of a problem with Denzel Washington and Keanu Reeves as brothers, in "Much Ado About Nothing" -- even half brothers. (Even though I absolutely love that movie, eh.)
Yeah. That's the one.
YAPPARI! Just as I thought, I remembered at about 12:00 last night just after I went to bed!

LOL, loved "Weird Science"...especially the part with Wyatt's grandparents frozen in the closet. They did look happy, Lisa was right about that.

A very simple question, but one that is very difficult for me answer because I don't view films as a form of escapism. I cherish cinema greatly, but more so as a work of art rather than for entertainment value. Filmgoing is a very enjoyable activity for me. However, individual films rarely make me feel good in a conventional sense.
...Not necessarily escapism. Films are there to tell stories -- and there is no "merely" in entertainment, either. Stories by their nature are designed to make audiences feel, whether the feeling is happy or sad or something else entirely.
So... To say that there is a story that makes you feel happy, or even bitter-sweet, is not the same as to view films as purely escapist.
I also like old-school movies with robots or elaborately technical props, such as Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Short Circuit, Batteries Not Included, and all three Back to the Future's.
