There is a music thread you know.

Heaviest stuff I like? Korn, Marilyn Manson, NIN, Ministry, Gary Numan, SOAD

Yeah, I know ther's a music thread, but I thought it might be "cool," "hip," and "groovy" Big Grin Rolleyes Big Grin Rolleyes Big Grin Rolleyes Big Grin Rolleyes to start a thread that was more specialized, and I thought 'well, I might as well start one about my favorite types of music, and see what happens...'.

Anyway, thanks for all the replies, everyone; It really means a lot to me... **wipes 'HappyTear' from eyes** {HappySob-Laugh}.

ANYwho... Moving on [Kim Possible: "So NOT the drama."]... I also thought that everyone could use more music ideas (looking up songs by Genre on Limewire: not so great[I didn't know "Who Let the Cows Out?" by weird Al was Punk Rock AND Heavy Metal...]).

Ok, let's have a list of PROPER metal not the fake stuff some people have posted.

Well, since some people have different views, wether the Metal they posted is "fake" or not, let's just try to post messages that are a little more positive, please, okay? Thanks.

Just remember-some people may have hurt feelings when their music is called "Fake," and this is a support site Wink Wink Wink Wink . Thanks Smile Smile Smile Smile .

Einstürzende Neubauten (1980-1984); Swans (1983-1984); Big Black (all material); Hüsker Du (1983-1985); Nocturnal Emissions (1980-1984); Birthday Party (1981-1983)... That's what comes to mind.

Check out Big Black, live version of "Bad Penny" on Youtube.

We have a similar taste in music. The only thing I'd change is The Velvet Undergroud in place of Husker Du. I was listening to "Bad Houses" and "Heartbeat" (Big Black), and "Mercy Seat" (Ok, Bad Seeds, not the Birthday Party) just yesterday. Nick Cave is a genius lyricist.

I do listen to a wide range of other stuff, from opera to psy trance to hip hop. The only stuff I really can't bear is pop music. Jessica Simpson makes me want to pour hot lead into my ears.

As for punk, I stopped listening when the Dead Kennedys put out Frankenchrist. Slow was probably my favourite punk band. Tom Anselmi was a one-man riot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RzA0VHcsBY

I find anything absurdly over the top extremely amusing metla/punk wise to be extremely amusing. I love anyting that aims to be particularly offensive in particular. I won't embarrass myself by listing anything I like. I think even folks HERE would not understand.

Ever listen to Whitehouse? I used to punish my neighbours by listening to it at top volume. Good times.

For those that don't know Whitehouse, it's basically industrial white noise, with a guy shouting obnoxious things over it. When the neighbours used to complain, I'd tell them I was having serious problems with my modem. Gives you some idea of what they sounded like. Steve Albini (Big Black) produces them and names them as a favourite band.

If you have someone in your life that is deserving of aural terrorism, check this out. I recommend the album "New Britain". It's not only hilariously annoying, it's art. And it builds character.

After this weirdness, you should feel safe in admitting whatever it is you like, Sean.

OK. Let's see the reaction to this:

For the last 15 years I have been obsessed with GG Allin.

One og my great triumjphs is when I actually managed to weird out his brother (or so those I was with seemd to think) at a murder junkies show. Yuppy looking nerd 5 feet from the stage screaiming along that knows all the lyrics, with this intense serious look of hate in my eyes... LOL.  Merle seemed to recoil when I made eye contact with him.

HA!  You beautiful mentalcase! I knew you had it in you! I just hope you didn't touch him.... you might need a course of antibiotics.

Just thought I might ask if you (the "royal" you-meaning everyone reading this message) could share some of the favorite songs from their bands/artists- I know how hard it is to pick "favorites," but you can pick as many "favorite" songs you want from any given band/artist.

My main reason for this request is that, when a group makes LOTS of songs, and some of them are... not as good as the others... then it becomes EXTREMELY hard to distinguish which songs are "the best."

For an example, please check my posts so far containing songs;
"Y'all" have so many "favorite" bands/artists, it would take FOREVER just to GLANCE at HALF of them-let alone listen to ALL the songs by ALL of them! Wink Smile Tongue Wink Smile Tongue Wink Smile Tongue Wink Smile Tongue Wink Smile Tongue Wink Smile Tongue Wink Smile Tongue Wink Smile Tongue

Listened intensely to Nurse With Wound, Coil, Volcano The Bear over the past two years. One tune that I can't seem to listen to much to is The Diamond Sea, by Sonic Youth; great tune to stim to.

I am curious as to what "Nocturnal Emission"-music you've heard. Did you see them live? I managed to see Einst:Neu in 1984 and 1986.

And how do you define pop music? Examples please...

Le Cercle Rouge

I love Coil. I still have Horse Rotorvator, Love's Secret Domain, and the Snow EP.
I first saw E.N. in 1986 at the World Expo in Vancouver. Wow. I'm not the type for crushes, but as an impressionable 15 year-old I thought Blixa Bargeld was a beautiful genius. I saw them once more in Vancouver, around 1994 (best guess). By then they were quite changed, but still incredible.

I have Fruiting Body, Drowning in a Sea of Bliss, and The World is My Womb by Nocturnal Emissions- all on vinyl from way-back-when. I also have loads of their stuff on cassette, but I don't know the names of all the albums. I never saw them live. I have seen Zoviet France, who were very good.

Being from Vancouver I was also into the various local bands: D.O.A., Skinny Puppy, F.L.A.. It was an amazingly active music scene fron the late 70s through early 90s.

By pop music I mean Jessica Simpson, Girls Aloud, various boy-bands that sing insincere lovesongs, shirtless in the rain....  blecch. My hands feel dirty from typing those words so I won't continue. What I mean by 'pop music' is a product, mass-marketed based upon a tacky image. It has no musical or lyrical depth. I don't understand why people pay money for that sort of stuff, but then many people would say the same about the music I listen to. Still, you have to wonder if anyone's soul is forever changed for the better by listening to "A Public Affair", by Jessica Simpson.

Being one of the pantyless attention whores, coincidentally, seems to guarantee you a spot on my most despised "musician" list. Paris Hilton. Britney Spears. Lindsay Lohan. Who is responsible for letting these people sing? The end of days must be at hand. I can think of no other plausible explanation. Wasn't there something in revelations about this?

Black Flag - Earlier stuff (pre-henry, although Damaged is good). I like the stuff after Henry took over vocals, but at that point they became a completely different band. ALMOST saw them live once, but cops broke up the show before they went on. Gregg Ginn is almost DEFINTELY ASPIE in my opinion. He would make eye contact with no one, would turn away or walk away when anyone approached him, and would only speak with Henry. He looked as if he was desperately trying to block it all out. His side project band "GONE" was the first set that night, and when he played... Completely focused - totally unaware of his surroundings.

Black Flag were the best punk band ever. I never thought of Gregg Gin being Aspie though. I thought Henry Rollins could be an aspie because of his attitude towards other people, being unsocial, not having much of a social lifeetc. This was mainly when he was younger and full of rage. He seems to be less pissed off these days.

I used to love Black Flag. I met Henry Rollins once, briefly. He smiled a lot and was very polite, not the Rollins I expected. He didn't strike me as the aspie type.

I guess it was more teenage angst than aspie tendencies ol' Hank displayed back then. He seems to be a cool guy. Have you ever heard any of his spoken word shows? They're hilarious. Saw him in London last year and he was great. I recommend you pick up Talk Is Cheap Vol.1. Almost died laughing when I first heard it!

Yeah, I caught one of his spoken word tours. It was very entertaining. Have you read any of his books? I don't normally go for autobiographical stuff so I haven't picked any of them up yet, but I have been meaning to since he is so funny.

I've got 2 russian compilation CDs with Coil... 1. Amethyst Deceivers, The Lost Rivers Of London, Ostia, Are You Shivering?, Where Are You?, At The Heart Of It All, A Cold Cell, Batwings, Who'll Fall, The Dreamer Is Still Asleep... 2. Panic, First Dark Ride, Further Back And Faster, The Anal Staircase, Red Skeletons, Scope, Solar Lodge, Blue Rats, A.Y.O.R, The First Five Minutes After Violent Death... I've heard Zoviet France and should have a CD-R somewhere that a friend made for me...  Do you call that what soils your fingers pop music. I'd call it trivial; at best.

I've got the Anal Staircase and Solar Lodge too.

It (pop music) is trivial, but omnipresent. An insidious evil.   !!!

He's referring to his brother Merle from the Cheater Slicks/Murder Junkies, Merle should be quite safe. GG on the other hand put out some really decent if somewhat explicit music up until about 1984-85 when his band was the Scumfucs.

Yeah, I know. I was just trying to be funny.

Then: Vangelis, JM Jarre, Pet Shop Boys, Human League, Kraftwork, Vince Dicola .... and many many more

Vangelis' soundtrack for Blade Runner is amazing. The OST release is crap, but the Esper Edition bootleg is one of my all-time favourite albums.

'Sharons Last Party' is following in the tradition of Throbbing Gristle...
No, but I've started listening to the Ramones and never realised before just how many good songs they had.
An educated guess says that Krispyg76 has a Gary Numan song lyric as signature...
