autistics can (like honest john) have poor "working" memory - the ability to hold more than one topic in your head at a time - makes math really hard especially word problems...
mercury , thimerosol and vaccines are not off the hook, jsut becasue of the gene theory... genetically our son was predisposed to be sensitive to chemicals, lotions,etc., (all kids of things ) he was gentically preisposed to rythmic jounce (great uncle, cousin,) head bang, (cousin) and be artistic (possibly savant) like a great uncle who was "eccentric". Our son (and me and my mom) must be given lower doses of things - when we take them at all) so with vaccines, sensitive as well, part of the trigger, it just matters when it is pulled, I do believe it's the timing of when they are given that chnages the variations of locking or unlocking certain specialized abilities that are innate... innately aspergers etc., I think that my son was born , like all other babies with a set and determined personality, in his case he's not a type A personality, he's a type aspergers.
you know the term it's the economy st*pid - It's the society *. I don't think, (I am not a social worker OR a scientist,) that it is any more prevalent. In the US, specifically NJ, where I live, it is not 1 in 150, in Nj it is 1 in 115. But I digress... Humans haven't changed! The babies, kids/people haven't intrinsicly changed, but the stresses to all of us have. Due to all kinds of factors, economics, whatever, babies are put into "group think" and play groups and day care, soemtimes at 6 weeks. What schools, pre-schools and kindergarten is asking of kids around here is unbelievable when compared with a generation ago. ALl kids of kids are using up their coping skills before they could possibly develop! If I were a kid I would run away kicking and screaming knowing I had 3 years of preschool then kindergarten then 12 years of mind numbing... robotic like, creative sapping government controlled school ahead of me. (16 years!) I didn't "force" my john into that, luckily we somehow knew better, but whenever somethign is too absurd for him he sure let's us know... Well I got off the point, but I know this, it is a tough time to be a different kind of learner.

Hmm... correct me if I'm wrong... but wouldn't this get people like the Autism Speaks and the Cure Autism Now people a leg up?? You know, in reading all this I've got to say that now people that say that Autism is caused by vaccines will have to change their tune... heh which is good...cause it keeps a bit of the missinformation down ... now I can FINALLY correct one of my professors... she swears that Autism is caused by vaccines.

I think that autism can be affected by vaccines - I just think so - I think that the timing if a chemical or vaccines introduction into a childs system has alot to do with which systems are affected and the outcome. I can't explain it, but I think it. I think that the recent genetics study doesn't refute my (humble/little/itty bitty) theory. Timing is everything.
