Slice potatoes, sprinkle with (indonesian/yellow) curry powder (aka kerrie), caraway seeds and (indonesian) soy sauce (aka ketjap), bake in a pan with some butter. Garlic, onions and mushrooms are optional too. Mind you, washing the pan after having had soy sauce baking in it is a pain... Tastes good though, although my parents don't believe me (they haven't tried though).
Btw, as to the rice in milk... there's a special type of rice that's supposed to be boiled in milk to make rice pudding... then you add a bit of butter and cinnamon on top.
So anyway, that's not a strange combination. As to the fries... with mayonnaise or with peanut/satay sauce... both are normal combinations too in The Netherlands. And yep, I've heard of tons of people who like to dip french fries in milkshakes... I think my husband said he used to do that too. He also likes chocolate milk with blue cheese.
