Today my boss said he was worried about my consistency (he said that I was good at my job but was liable to make elementary errors for no apparent reason). He implied that I only made an effort with the difficult stuff and couldn’t be bothered with getting the easy stuff right.
Does anyone else have trouble with consistency?
Thats because the easy stuff is boring and not challenging and the difficult stuff is challenging and intersting.
Yes, I would agree with that and also have the same trouble with being picked up on making small errors when I "should have known better". I think we get bored easily as we like a mental challenge.
yes i have been told the same thing since i was a kid in school
Happens to me all the time at my job. The odd thing is it is minor stuff(ususally) I get wrong or overlook. My main problem has been transposing or entering wrong product number code on internal paperwork that goes nowhere else but in my department. Doesnt affect customer, facility or inventory stats just the little piece of paper wekeep in our testing lab. I was informed a few weeks ago that if I do it again I can expect a disciplinary suspension of 1 or 2 days. What makes my head want to explode is a co-worker in the exact same job I have made an error that cost the company 40k and just got a written form in his file, yet I for a dumb number that affects nothing is threatened with a suspension. Oy.
Now that I know about aspergers and how it affects me I realize that this job Ihave now is not really a good fit.
I will be changing employment in the next month and a half, so hopefully I choose more wisely.

Hah. At my last retail job (about 15 years ago) they learned early on I could not help check inventory because I would transpose digits for SKU numbers.
Yup! A Problem of mine too.
Yes, I would agree...

Exactly...
As in consistently arguing about this with a boss I had once .
I always wanted the "Big-picture", while he only wanted minor details....
He was nice guy... never considered firing me for arguing with him...
Eventually I quit though... Suggestion: Find a job that fits, with a Boss that likes your style.
