Languages in this day-and-age is being ravaged by English just so that TOURISTS could learn the language. There's actually controversy over the changes and additions to the language itself. I don't speak it sadly, but I say that German should remain German, and not cater to the lowest-common denominator tastes of American tourists.
There are controversies in many countries and I'd fight if it would get really worse.
But I'm not really the person to complain. I started thinking partly in english sometime ago because I like it.
If you are interested in IT you are maybe interested in heise, it's a german IT news site and it offers security articles also in english. I've never read them but some of them seem to be about the same topic.

Anyway - if you want to learn German properly and fast, the best program you can use is Rosetta Stone language software - it's used by the U.S State Dept for visiting officials.

The bit about putting off the verb for as long as humanly possible particularly stuck with me. When in doubt, it's actually not a bad rule-of-thumb.
His essays about Wagner are also well worth reading (bearing in mind that Twain made several trips to Bayreuth).
