was an idea formed by a few auties on myspace (including myself)
I have grouped all of the suggestion together to give you all an idea of what suggestion have been given. I hope that I have done a good job of representing what you all have said. If I’ve forgotten something or if there is more you would like to add please do so. I am still doing lots of research on this and will continue to ask for assistance to make this the best that it can be. Also, I am asking for assistance is areas of marketing this facility to families, getting funding, volunteers etc, so if you have suggestions on this please add it here. This is the first time I have voiced what I would like to do to any one beside my family. I greatly appreciate all of the advice, and input you are giving. I want this to be not only my vision, but yours. Thanks again!! Dawn
*Media Room to include videos, DVDs, music. Ranging from young children to adults, all venues.
Along with the media room we could possible have computers with games and gaming systems
*Library to include all venues with special sections of books pertaining to the special needs we are servicing. Comfy chairs and reading groups were also suggested.
*Arts and Crafts Room ranging from very basic to the expert crafter tools.
* Music room with volunteers to teach how to play instruments and vocals. Maybe even a place to listen to music and dance
*Sensory diet area or room…..more to come on this one because I am still learning but some of the examples would be sand and water tables, trampoline, ball pit
*A quiet room for those bad days when we need a dark soothing area to calm down and regroup.
*OT, PT, and speech therapy have also been suggested. This one would have to depend on weather or not we could get these persons to volunteer their own time to be available. A PT area would be easy to set up with a trampoline, swings, climbing walls, etc.
* A variety of visiting speakers. Classes of interest in a large variety for participants
* Walls not to be painted hospital-white. varied form room to room, depending on teh activity, such as cream or pale lavender walls.
