Welcome to AFF, Mikoto80!
I ADORE guinea pigs. I had two of them years ago, a woolly brown father and his fluffy pastel son. They are sweet, simple pets...I still remember the cute little bubbling and squeaking calls they made at feeding time.

Guinea pigs were my first pets. (The original plan of my parents were to get two or three males, but both turned out to be females, and pregnant.) We used to make mazes for them out of old tyres. Also funny to mimic. (A girl I used to know told me that my guinea pig impression is near perfect!!)
I don't reckon I could ever eat a guinea pig either. But it's a simple fact of life on Earth that animals (including humans) eat other animals (including humans.)
Oh.

You're thinking of pot bellied pigs, maybe?
Actually guinea pigs are native to South America.
SO CUTE!!!!!

By all accounts, guinea pigs and lemmings are both species of rodent.
(I've only heard one theory that said possibly guinea pigs weren't, though. But don't know what came of that school of thought.)
...to me they look more like smaller versions of capebara, though.
(Capebara -- I can't quite remember how to spell -- are those large semi-aquatic rodents found in South America.)

Who could eat a guinea pig? They are the sweetest little things.
I have one, myself. He's a very anxious little guy, so we get along well.

I also wonder how people can eat rats but apparently in some parts of the world they are considered a delicacy. Even those cute little chihuahuas used to be eaten in some parts of South America.
I would like to get some guinea pigs but at present have lots of pet rats so I've got my hands full with looking after them. Some of my big male rats are almost as fat as small guinea pigs.
Sad, but true, my Guinea pig died on December 17, 1993.

Awww, I am sorry. My younger guinea pig died on March 24, 1998 (my 32nd birthday!) and the elder one died the following September. One day I will post their pictures here in loving memory...
Oh dear! He wouldn't have liked pet rats or mice then. I don't have guinea pigs but would like to get some one day. Presently, I have pet rats - 23 of them, in all different colours. One is very old and I don't think he is long for this world.
23 rats! I like you even more!
How old is grandaddy rat?
If we have to leave Australia, can I please send you our two girls? I don't think we'll be allowed to take them...

Oh, the grandaddy rat is almost 3 years old. I haven't had any rats that lived more than 3 years but some strains of lab rats can live up to 7.
I've only got 7 girl rats and so I guess the more the merrier.
