Hi everyone,
I just found your site this morning and I'm thrilled that I did.
I am a 40 year old mom and grandmother with ASD. I was diagnosed around age 6, but I'm not sure exactly what the diagnosis was. Whatever it was, my parents took it to mean that I was mentally retarted and it wasn't until I was an adult that I discovered the truth. I have a genius level IQ, absolutely no social skills (I consider myself somewhat accentric) and I also have sensory issues.
I have three children, all with some level of ASD. My son, the youngest, is the most severe but still on a mild to moderate level. For some reason it seems that the higher the IQ in my children, the higher the level of ASD. I wonder if they've ever studied that.
Anyway, I know it's tough being a parent to an autistic child (oh gosh, is it!) and I also know how hard it can be to be an autistic parent. If ever I could offer insight or support, I'm only a PM or post away.
Thanks for the wonderful site!
