a Simple blood test could detect children at risk of developing autism.
Scientists belive they have found ways of detecting the biological risk factors for the condition which affects up to one in 100 children.
Experts in the US found autistic kids are unable to metabolise key fatty acids tha6t help the body fight inflamation which causes brain damage.
A blood or urine test could check for high levels of bad fat molecules. But experts warn testing on humans is still years away.Dr George Lambert said 'Its an exciting story thats unfolding'
"

Dr George Lambert..that name seems familiar...
So now we have brain damage?
Apparantly so. Though I actually highly doubt it, if it was brain damage causing the problem due to a metabolic dysfunction then surely it would get worse over time, which it doesn't seem to do.

And how does that explain our intelligence in the Aspie community?  What, we lose social ability, but gain in intellectual?  Or is this some goofy theory making illogical jumps?

It could explain some of the GI tract issues...

And inflammation of one kind usually ends up affecting the entire body...I have arthritis and have been told to keep it under control or I run the risk of other conditions such as damage to my cardiovascular system.  A meta-study of ASD causes of death in old age would show if this is a possible avenue of investigation.

How come no-one does studies like that?

Oh, boo...
