The meaning of the term "nationalist" can differ greatly depending on a particular nation and the circumstances in which it exists. Here is Scotland anyone who supports independence from the British state, like me, is usually termed a "nationalist" even if they take strongly internationalist positions such as removing all border and immigration controls. If I support nationalism at all then it is a progressive civic nationalism where people can be proud of their own nation and culture while at the same time celebrating cultural diversity and welcoming people from all over the world.

Being a Communist, i have got no interest / gain / reward in defending the BNP.
Nevertheless, we should be fair with them:
Anti-Foreigner: UNTRUE ! The actually want England to belong to the English, and not to multi-cultured / multi-lingual invaders.
Anti-Homosexual: What point is there in this? Gays have never harmed anyone.
Anti-Disabled: There's a terrible misunderstanding here. They don't hate the DISABLED PERSON. They hate the DISABILITY = they wish that everyone were born healthy.

That may be true but the BNP today is no different and I've seen loads of Tv programmes which have exposed them as the same old Nazis they've always been.

If you really believe the Nazis' policies were sound then you are, in my view, either a totalitarian nutter for which there is no hope and who dreams of a society reminiscent of that Orwell wrote about in 1984, or you have been seriously misled and will hopefully grow out of your primitive ideology at some point in the future.
The BNP blames minorities, mainly immigrants and asylum seekers, for everything that's gone wrong in the UK. Their attacks on other parties are mainly based on the idea that these parties are only interested in representing minorities - on Friday night in their party election broadcast they claimed that my party (the SSP) "won't even touch you unless you're an asylum seeker".

No populist right-wing party will ever in my view be moderate. But as for what you call a "more moderate alternative" then I would certainly not like to see such a thing as it's much easier for the left to fight against outright Nazis than it is to fight a party like the Norwegian Progress Party or the Swiss People's Party.

No, and anti-semitism was pretty central to Nazi viewpoints, not some side-note. By the way, just being small in numbers and not being liked very well isn't the same as being oppressed. Here in the USA the KKK is small in numbers and not liked very well and that's because they're nasty hate-filled racists, not because they're some oppressed minority that deserves protection as such. If people don't like being lumped in with the views of the KKK, they shouldn't join it. Likewise the BNP.
